“How many single guys are in the pack?” Sab checked.

“Two, if you count Ryder. His mate rejected him, and he’s been fighting his wolf ever since.”

Sab’s eyebrows lifted. “Why’d she reject him? Is he an asshole?”

I shrugged. “The pack doesn’t seem to think so, but you know how I feel about packs. I think I remember hearing that he never actually met his mate while he was in his human form before she rejected him though, so if that’s the case, I’m not sure how he could’ve been an ass.”

“How would that work?” Sab wondered.

“I don’t know.”

“You know who would?” Sab flashed me a wicked grin. “Elliot.”

“Or Char,” I pointed out, knowing she was about to take the conversation back to the love life I still didn’t know what to do about.

“Ooh, good point. Come on.” Sab was on her feet and tugging me through the house a moment later. I let her drag me, though I was reluctant to poke and prod for information.

“Hey girl,” Sab said to Char, still wearing her wicked grin.

“Hmm?” Char paused her show and looked over at us.

I leaned up against the wall at the side of the room.

“What do you know about Ryder? From Elliot’s pack?” Sab checked.

“Ryder who?” Char’s eyebrows knitted together. “Elliot’s pack only has six, like most. Elliot, Ford, Rocco, Jesse, Dax, and Zed.”

Sab looked at me.

I shrugged. “All I know is that he’s Rocco’s brother.”

Her eyebrows shot upward. “Oscar, you mean? Oscar Hughes? I heard he was going by his middle name now. He was rejected, though.” She bit her lip, her forehead wrinkling as she thought it through. “We all thought he was dead for a couple of months. He’s supposed to be in pretty bad shape, wolf-wise.”

“Why did his mate reject him?” Sab checked.

“Lisa? Oh, she’s a real bitch. You should meet her. She talks down to everyone, thinks she’s better than us because we’re all werewolves or in a werewolf town. The way she talks to you is enough to make you want to punch her in the face.” Charly’s nose wrinkled as if she hated just thinking about her.

My stomach clenched.

My last pack had probably said all the same things about me.

“Are you sure Ryder’s not just an asshole?” Sab asked, glancing over at me and undoubtedly knowing what I was thinking. “Our pack treated Lizzy like she was a bitch just because she rejected SD after he hurt her.”

Charly shrugged. “I don’t know Ryder other than by word of mouth, but she doesn’t either, so I don’t know how he could’ve been abusive. He hunted her for a year, and then she drove drunk and got in a car crash. Nearly died. He only bit her to save her, and her wolf proceeded to reject him.”

“Maybe we should invite her to the pack dinner too,” Sab said, shooting me a grimace.

“If Oscar’s going to be there, that would be a good way to drive his wolf to actual madness, which would kill him. So, don’t.” Charly flashed us a small smile. “If you’re worried about her being lonely, I can get you her number. But keep her away from him.”

Sab nodded. “We’ll definitely take her number.”

Char grabbed her phone, and sent a quick text. Thirty seconds later, mine and Sab’s phones dinged with text messages. “There you go.”

Sab and I headed back to her room, and sat back down on her bed. I felt better after talking to her, honestly, even though I still wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to do about any of the messes in my life.

“So, tell me everything I’ve missed,” I told her, leaning back against her headboard.

She drawled, “All of the exciting events that always happen to me, you mean?”
