“Del said the freezers are packed full. Throw some stuff in the microwave,” a female voice ordered.

The wolf didn’t like that, at all.

A vicious snarl escaped her, and she struggled to her feet before crashing back down, hard.

“Shit. He’s going to kill us,” one of the male voices muttered.

“I don’t think she wants us in her territory,” the female voice warned.

The wolf snarled even more furiously than she had before—probably because she had realized she couldn’t attack anyone with anything but her voice. She was too damn weak.

“It’s you, Tea. She probably thinks you’re a threat,” a male voice said, calmly. “Go get Del. Have her bring food, and see if June’s wolf responds positively to her. Make sure Ebony doesn’t come over either.”

My wolf gave a low growl, but it wasn’t nearly the angry threat it had been before.

“Del’s having contractions. She thinks they’re just Braxton Hicks’, but Rocco won’t let her off the couch,” Tea explained quickly.

The wolf snarled at her, and tried to get up again, but fell hard once more.

“Alright, we’ll take care of her. You keep Ebony away—and maybe go check on Del, if she’s in that bad of shape.”

“It’s not bad shape, it’s just—oh, fine.” Tea huffed when the body-snatching wolf snarled at her yet again.

She left, and the wolf relaxed slightly, licking the small strip of Zed’s face that his long, tangled, and dirty hair left exposed.

Her stomach rumbled again, loudly.

A massive, tan-skinned guy with dark hair kneeled in front of the wolf, far enough away to make an escape if she attacked.

She eyed him, but didn’t growl. I was pretty sure I recognized him from Del’s wedding, but couldn’t remember his name.

“I’m Elliot,” he told the wolf, his expression serious. “Your body will need a lot of food to adjust to the change from human to wolf. If you don’t shift back to human so she can eat, or let us feed you an entire freezer’s worth of food, I don’t know if you’ll survive.”

The word’s seemed to have their intended effect, making the wolf grow solemn.

She licked Zed’s face a few times, still looking at Elliot.

He nodded, his expression softening a bit. “Yeah, he’s yours. Nothing can take him from you.”

She gave a growl of agreement.

Guess I’d been wrong about the possibility of her rejecting him. She seemed pretty damn attached already.

“It’ll be easier for us to feed your human than you,” Elliot told her gently. “And when you’re fed, we can move you and Zed somewhere more comfortable. If you shift back, you can always take over again if your human tries to run away from him.”

I didn’t think there was a chance the wolf would go for it, but suddenly, a lash of pain tore through my spine.

A silent scream escaped me, and the wolf whined as our body began to contort.

The pain only grew worse as I fought to stop it, trying to retake control or push her back into the driver’s seat.

A pair of gorgeous, exhausted emerald eyes filled my vision, and a large hand cupped the side of my head.

“Stop fighting, just for one minute,” the most gorgeous male voice I’d ever heard said.

I couldn’t help it; I stopped fighting.

Just for one minute.
