Dex ignores him or just doesn’t register his words, his gaze still locked on Rosie.
“I, uh, I should get on those free drinks,” she says, turning and heading for the bar. Dex takes off after her without another word.
Jared shakes his head in confusion. “What the fuck just happened?”
“I think Dex just found a whole different kind of fire to put out,” I murmur, smiling to myself.
I make my excuses as I see Shelby and Anthony entering the bar and rush over to greet them.
“Oh, my God, girl, this is some event you have going on!” Shelby says, giving me a huge hug. “I’m so proud of you!”
Anthony hugs me too, pulling back to smile at me. “Great job, Poppy. You’ve nailed it tonight.”
“Aw, shucks, stop it now. You’re making me blush,” I laugh, waving off their compliments. “Besides, you have a part to play in all this. You did an amazing job getting the word out,” I add, looking at my best friend.
“My pleasure. I had no idea the club was struggling until you called me. My parents have been coming here for years, so they were only too happy to help however they could,” Shelby replies.
“Well, it’s been amazing so far, but I still have work to do, so I’ll have to love you and leave you. Enjoy, and I’ll catch you later!”
I give them a little wave and head off to round up some more staff to help with the free beers.
