Promising myself and Vanessa that our new life starts tomorrow.

I’m back in the office way before sun-up. The time I’d normally be on a construction site waiting for a cement delivery or making sure my team is on point.

But today and every day after will be different now.

A memo’s been sent out, and leading hands will have to depend on me less but keep the same standards that we’re famous for. That’s not something I grapple with, and they’re all experts. It just means calling me less when things don’t go as planned.

My own plans come first now, and that plan is Vanessa.

Our plans.

Watching the clock like an employee waiting for five to roll around it feels like forever before she finally does arrive.

I’ve been watching the security cameras like a hawk, making sure everyone knows I’m not to be disturbed. Not for any reason.

It’s only once I see her enter the building that I relax.

There’s a bunch of stuff new employees usually go through, but I’ve made sure that Vanessa comes straight to me personally this morning.

The fact Jase’s second in charge called in sick is as good a cover as anything. But I don’t want things covered up or secret games. I just want her. And once I have her, things will be very different around here, that’s for sure.

I just hope Jase is up for the challenge. He’s gonna have a lot of extra work if he wants to earn his stripes as ‘the boss’ someday.

The desire in me for Vanessa isn’t just about how perfect she is but the future family she can give us both.

My children, her children.

And seeing her shown into my office once she arrives only sets that idea in stone.

She’s clutching a folder to her ample chest, covering the neckline of her blouse. But without taking my eyes from hers, I can see how well she’s filling her new outfit.

A long skirt hides her bare skin from me, but not her curves.

Those childbearing hips and her thick thighs make me rumble inside. Clearing my throat, I motion her to a chair.

I realize that standing up right now would be a repeat of her interview.

We don’t say anything for a moment, and it’s not because of her first-day nerves or my own lack of things to say. It really feels as if both of us somehow know that we want things to go better this time.

I’m certain now she wants what I want, but I want to hear her say it. I need to hear the words so I can give her everything that she deserves.

As if my thoughts are in her mind, she pipes up first.

“Mr. Hart…Michael,” she blushes, looking down at the floor.

“I’m sorry for Saturday…and I’m really grateful for the opportunity. I just…,” she starts but breaks off.

“Why’d you run?” I ask. “Was it me? Am I that horrible?”

My voice sounds like someone else, like someone reading a part. But for the first time in my life, I think I’m actually talking with feelings, not just words.

Something that’s new to me and only something I’ve felt with Vanessa.

“No,” she murmurs, flushing harder. “You’re not horrible,” she says. A little smile playing on her lips.

“I just got scared, I guess. I mean the job and all…but then…,” she continues, but I butt in, finishing her sentence.

“But then you hugged my neck and fell into my lap. Didn’t you?” I coax her, watching her shiver as she replays the moment in her mind.

She gnaws her lip, nodding slowly like a girl who’s about to confess some kind of mortal sin.

I’m watching intently as each flicker of her body makes my cock spring to life harder and more insistent than ever.

“Forget about the job for now,” I instruct her. “You’re hired, and your future here is safe. I want to hear everything I wanted to know from you…before you ran on Saturday.”

There’s a long silence.

“Did you not like what happened?” I finally ask, trying hard not just to tell her what I want to do to her. But I need to hear the words from her.

She looks up with almost pleading eyes. I know what her body needs, but I can’t do anything if she doesn’t want me to.

Say it, Vanessa…just tell me you want me like I want you.

“I did,” she says so quietly that I almost miss it. “…It’s all I can think about since then…,” she adds, making me groan uncontrollably.

Her eyes widen, and her chest heaves with breathing that matches my own.

I need to hear this. Sure, I do. But fuck if it isn’t making me hotter than a rosebush at a rhinoceros convention.

My creased mouth widens to a smile as we both find common ground.

“Did you…I mean, were you following Jase and me?” she asks, breaking my train of thought as I try to decipher how her blouse comes undone from a distance.
