“I don’t trust her either, brother, which is why I’m trying to keep you from doing something stupid, like you almost did earlier.”
I growl and shove off him, walking toward the room next to Jaz’s, “Worry about your responsibilities, we have shit to do at the clubhouse.”
I don’t wait for him to reply, I just slam my door shut and pull off my shirt before flopping down on the bed. The delicious meal next door says she’s been searching for me. For my brothers and I but why? I grew up knowing it was strange that three powerful Alphas were drawn to each other. Abnormal that while Case Atticus and I could coexist with each other, even work together like a team, we were still unable to live under another Alpha. As soon as our first shift came, we had to leave. We couldn’t follow orders without challenging the man, therefore putting the entire pack in danger. We were exiled from the Appalachian Pack as teens and after living years as rebellious pups turned wild wolves, we formed the Cutthroat MC.
Perhaps Jaz is searching for us because of our reputation for taking in strays and giving them a purpose again. Or is it something else entirely? Therefore, I took it easy on Case. I know these are his thoughts as well. There are too many unknowns about Jaz and her appearance in our territory, but I will get to the bottom of it. I will make sure all threats to our pack are stomped out before they begin to burn us.Even if that means eliminating the only person who makes my wolf howl for something more.
A bang at my door has my eyes snapping open and lifting my wristwatch to my eyes, five in the morning. Not enough sleep but nothing a few cups of coffee can’t fix.
“Yeah!” I shout to whoever has a death wish on the other side of my door.
“Prez, I brought the bikes, and coffee.” Jones’ voice calls through the door. The prospect has been with us for a few months now and he’s a damn good beta. He was so lost in the madness when we found him that his wolf refused to give up control and fought against the spells Ma used to heal him. After weeks of working on him to no avail, my brothers and I used our Alpha power and commanded the wolf to submit. Immediately he shifted to a scrawny man who was covered in scars.
He had no memory of his old pack, nor could he recall how he got the body of scars, but even with healing powers, he was unable to remove them. He wears them as a badge of honor now, though most are covered in tattoos and his now bulky muscles will deter anyone from shit talking his scars.
Rolling from the bed, I swing open the door with a glare. I may like Jones, trust him like one of my brothers, but I’m nothing but a fucking beast in the mornings. Especially with that intoxicating fucking scent in the air. Jaz Monroe will not be the death of me, she’ll be the death of everyone around me when I lose control and kill anyone who pisses me off.
“Rough night, Alpha?” Jones asks as I follow him out the door to the bikes. Atticus is unloading them when I stop and bang on Jaz’s door, hopefully ruining her sleep. A smile pulls on my lips when I hear her groan and something hitting the door.Ahh, such satisfaction. It’s the little things that count. I feel my wolf chuff, his own form of laughter.
“Rough night doesn’t even cover it.” I tell Jones as I shake my head, “You riding back with us?”
“Yeah, I’m done here. Barron will take over the shop now so I can finally earn my patch.” He claps me on the shoulder.
“Good, we’ll need you now that we have a special guest.”
Jones cocks his brow, but before he can ask what I mean, there’s a loud thump against the door behind us as about two inches of a blade pokes through the wood.
“Uncuff me you unbearable wolf!” Jaz’s feminine voice screeches with anger, “I have to peeeee!”
“What the fuck?” Jones breathes as he looks from the knife to me. I just shake my head and pinch the bridge of my nose.Where does she keep getting knives from?I probably should have taken her bag out of the room last night.
Case walks past us and claps Jones on the shoulder, shoving the man forward, “Good luck,” before checking out his new tires.
“Don’t let her have anything sharp. She will not hesitate to use it on you.” I turn and enter the room, leaving Jones to question my brothers about Jaz.
“Sleep well?” I ask her sarcastically.
Then shut my mouth when I look around the room. What the hell? The bedsheet is tied like a noose with the loop around her bag. There are marks on the carpet which tells me she dragged her bag closer to her so she could get the knife. I swear to Ancients, this wolf is more trouble than I need right now.
“What the hell are you, G.I Jane?” I ask as I rip the bag from her before searching her for more weapons.
The sinful shorts won’t be able to hide anything, hell they barely hide her ass cheeks, but her boots are still on, so I pull them off and check them thoroughly. I don’t find anything, and her constant eye roll tells me she doesn’t have anything else, but I still don’t trust her.She probably hides them in her ass. She’s deadly enough to pull it off.
“Are you done? Can I use the damn restroom now?” She huffs when I drop her boots and eye her.
“Listen, I don’t trust you for shit, Jaz. You haven’t shown me that you can be trusted, but hopefully this warning reaches that brain of yours. If you pull any shit from here on out, I won’t kill you, I’ll just make sure your wolf never resurfaces. The Witches under my protection have the magic to do it. Understand?”
Jaz sits up bringing her face to my stomach, fire burning in her eyes, “Maybe you can’t hear good, but this is the last time I will repeat myself so listen up. I will not fight you anymore. I will not try to run, nor will I kill any of you.”
Her thighs squeeze together as she lowers her gaze to my crotch, the traitorous bastard twitches with her attention on him. Chuckling at her boldness, I tip her chin back so I can see her eyes, “Good. Until your word is proven honorable, you’ll still be on lockdown. You’ll have a prospect on you at all times. When other chapters come to the compound, you will listen and obey every order I give. My world may be similar to yours, but it’s not. We play by a different set of rules and those who don’t end up dead. Got it?”
She gulps under my gaze but nods her understanding. I love the blush that kisses her cheeks, and I can’t help but stroke my thumb over the pink color. Her eyes flash grey, her wolf responding to me like I know mine is doing now. Both of them wanting to come out and meet, this time without fighting. I hadn’t realized I was leaning down until I felt her shuddering breath across my lips.
Pulling back and releasing her jaw, I uncuff her quickly, eager to leave the room before I fall under her spell again, “Prospect Jones is at the door. Get dressed so we can ride out with the sun.”
