“First of all, I don’t know what laws you're talking about. I was passing through and needed money to continue my journey, so I took a job at the garage. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, who the hell was I supposed to tell, one of the many humans living there? Or are they Witches too?”
Roman leans forward, his hands gripping the edge of the counter on either side on my thighs, “Jerry, your manager, was an omega. Red, the shop’s receptionist, was an omega. Same for the other emplyees and a few of the regulars. You’re a powerful wolf, I’m guessing a beta. You should have been able to tell.”
What. The. Fuck? How did I not know that? How was I unable to tell they were wolves? I’ve worked alongside omegas and grew up with them. They’re submissive and always eager to please. They help raise our pups or become nurses in some type of way. I know the omega scent but these people, they smelled like they just finished rolling around with a dog in water. No offense meant, but they made me think they were just humans with dogs as pets.
“I see what’s going on in your head, they were once lone wolves, their pack scent faded, same as yours will if you continue on alone. Point is, you broke Cutthroat laws, now you belong to me.”
I ignore his words and the flutter they send through me. There’s no point thinking deeper into them when all he’s saying isI’m his to punish.I focus on what he said about my pack scent, and I look down at my body, like I’ll be able to see my scent fading. I can’t imagine losing it, it’s a part of my wolf. Losing your scent means your wolf is slowly dying, or at least that’s what I’ve heard. Then it hits me!
“That’s why you have Witches working for you. You help shifters off the edge of madness...because their wolves are dying, and the Witches help you do that,” I can feel my heart squeeze tightly as Roman nods his head, “you do what you can to save our kind.”
It’s a statement, not a question but Roman nods and continues cleaning my neck and chest. But as I watch him with new eyes while he cleans me instead of killing me, the pieces of the puzzle begin to click together.
“In all the stories I’ve heard about the True Alphas, they do the same thing; saving the wolves, making new packs and keeping them safe.”
Fuck, did I fight against the True Alphas tonight?
Wait… Did I almost have sex with one of my childhood heroes?!
