This is our last year of Angelic Academy, then we will be working alongside our dads. Well, not actually, but we will be doing our jobs from Earth while they do theirs up there with the big man.

“Let's just get this night over with and enjoy the rest of our weekend,” I whisper back.

He looks at me for a moment before nodding, sitting back into his seat, and picking back up whatever conversation he was having with his Heather.

Sitting here with the awful country music playing in the background, I relax back into the chair. Grabbing the bowl of chips on the table next to me, I snack on them as I take in everything around me.

To anyone else, Noah and Luke look like they are enjoying the conversations they are having as they interact with their fiancées and our fellow students, but I know them better than anyone else in the world. They look fucking miserable.

I wish things could be different, but I don’t see another way around this without causing a ton of trouble.

These are the lives we were born into, and unfortunately it comes with some sacrifices.

Laughter from above has me look up towards Abby’s balcony outside. “Leo, stop,” she barely gets out between gasps for air as she laughs. “I’m gonna pee.”

“Oh no, we don’t want that,” Leo teases, grinning as he keeps tickling her.

“I’ll save you, Little Bird,” Zed chimes in, coming into view. He picks her up, throwing her over his shoulder, and slapping her ass, making her squeal with laughter as he takes her back into her room.

“Starbright, come back!” Leo laughs, taking off after them.

A feeling I’m not used to steels deep in my chest. Jealousy. Why the fuck does seeing her so happy with those two assholes have me wanting to go into a jealous rage?

Not feeling very hungry anymore, I put the chips back. Noah catches my eye, and the look on his face tells me he just saw that little display too. He looks just as annoyed as I do.

“Does she not understand what staying out of sight means?” Luke grumbles, shoving my leftover chips into his mouth as his gaze lingers on the balcony.

“She’s probably wishing she can hang out down here with us,” Noah’s Heather snickers. “We all know she wishes she was a Pure Blood like us.”

Okay, Heather, I highly doubt she's so jealous she can't sit here and die of boredom. If that doesn’t take her out, the fucking ear bleeding music would.

“What a pity her mates are a demon and a dark angel. I can’t believe she is willing to be seen in public with them,” Luke’s Heather says, sounding disgusted just talking about it.

One thing I hate to admit is, I envy her. She’s able to love who she wants and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about it while I’m being forced to be with girls whose voices make paint peel from the walls. I know that sounds mean. But behind closed doors, I know these girls aren’t any better than me and the guys. I know they bully, I know they gossip. They don’t love us any more than we love them. They see power, money, and social status and will do whatever they can to have it. Meaning, they are willing to live in a loveless marriage.

Why does one of Abby’s mates have to be my half brother? The guy has the fucking nerve to come here knowing damn well he isn’t welcome. My dad disowned him like the thing he is, trash. Dark Angel trash and he should stay on his side of the island.

I watch the reflection of the fairy lights that hang from the trees, shining off the pool water, the wind making the water lap at the sides as I drown out the girls and other people around us gossiping about Abby.

We hate her, she's the enemy in more than one way, yet she still finds a way to worm inside my head.

I need a fucking drink.
