That gets his attention. He whirls on us. “What the bloody hell do you mean she’s being targeted?”

“She helped us, saved Walker by going up against three vampires.”

“Do you want to die?” he demands. “This is no place for a human.”

Rachel takes a step closer, and Ridley growls in response, before retreating a step. “This isexactlywhere this human is going to stay, and you can move the hell on if you’re unhappy with it.” She jabs a finger from her free hand into his chest. “If you have a problem with that, you can get the hell over yourself.”

He glares down at her but finally takes a step back, cheeks flush.

Rachel glances at the others, then turns to me. “I’m sorry for the gun. I wasn’t sure if it was the council.”

Ridley snorts. “And yet you came running down to protect us—ballsy—woman. Very ballsy. Or, perhaps, foolish?” He turns to us. “I’m assuming things have only gotten worse in my absence?”

“You’d be assuming correctly,” Tarnley replies.

“The council sent vampires after the psychic?”

Elijah nods. “The council sent four vampires after him. They killed a bunch of hospital staff and patients.”

Ridley’s expression hardens, and he shakes his head angrily. “Fucking assholes.”

“Rachel managed to kill three of them, pumped him full of silver.” Rainey’s tone is appreciative as she glances back at Rachel.

“It was nothing,” Rachel replies, with a shake of her head.

“It was foolish. You should have run,” he scolds her.

“Had she done that, Walker would have died,” Rainey retorts.

Ridley’s tight expression is completely out of character for the otherwise arrogant fae, but I push it aside to deal with later. “This is the army you brought us, then?”

Ridley nods. “This is them.” Then, he cocks his head to the side and studies Delaney.

“What?” she asks as she moves into Cole’s side.

Ridley grins at her. “You’re pregnant.”

The entire room falls silent, and Delaney’s eyes widen so far, it’s damn near comical. Though, based on his lack of surprise, Ridley’s declaration only confirms that Cole’s known all along.

All eyes shift to Delaney.

“It’s about damn time someone says it,” Cole replies with a sideways grin.

“Youknew?” Delaney whirls on him.

He taps a finger to his ear. “Supernatural hearing, love. You can’t get anything past me.”

Her eyes well up, and she moves toward him. “I didn’t want to tell you until our situation was better.”

Cole opens his arms, and Delaney walks into them, wrapping her own around his waist. “I get it, but just for the record, you should have told me. A baby, Del, we’re going to have a baby.”

“I know.” They stand together in their own world, the rest of us merely watching as a future falls into place for our favorite witch-shifter combo.

A future that is brighter than anything they could have hoped for. That is, if we survive what’s coming first.

“Happy days,” Ridley quips, looking genuinely pleased by the news. Then, he claps his hands together. “Someone care to fill me in on what else is going on?”

“Bronywyn’s pop came to town,” Cole tells him.
