“I hear you have someone that belongs to me,” I growl.
She grins, ruby red lips parting in a dark smile. “You are the mate. I have heard so much about you. Please, do come in.” She waves a hand, and I immediately go on the defensive, throwing up a shield. Something that seems to only amuse her further. “I am most pleased to meet you. Especially since you brought my daughter back to me.”
“I’m not here for you,” Bellamy growls, her tone perfect for the level of anger therealBellamy would likely possess.
“Yes, I have heard you are quite fond of these pathetic creatures. In fact, I hear you’ve chosen them over your own kind.”
“Since my kind are monsters, can you blame me?”
The succubus queen’s expression darkens. “I can. And I do. Get in here, now.”
“Not until you give us Tarnley,” I snap back.
The woman rolls her eyes. “A deal is a deal.” She snaps her fingers, and two women move out of a room to the left, Tarnley between them.
My heart seizes in my chest at the sight of his blood-shot eyes, bloody lip, and swollen eye. “I will kill you for this.”
“You lot make a lot of threats for creatures who are completely at my mercy.”
“Not completely,” Bellamy says with a grin. She raises a hand and snaps her fingers. In the blink of an eye, she’s gone, only to reappear right beside Tarnley. She puts a hand on his shoulder. Then they disappear again, and a few moments later, she’s standing back beside me.
“What the hell are you? You are not my Bellamy!”
The dark fae turns to me. “As I said, everyone only ever wants to see what they long for. Never the truth.” She winks and snaps her fingers, again; the succubus queen coughs and sputters as she clutches a hand to her chest.
Meanwhile, I’m helpless to fully look away from the dark fae as she slowly closes her fist. The moment she does, Bellamy’s mother stumbles to the ground and falls flat, as do the other two succubae who dragged Tarnley out.
“What the hell just happened?”
The dark fae turns to Rainey. “I just helped you win.” She winks. “Come see me again if you ever want to play.” When she snaps again, she’s gone.
