“The lying bitch deserved what she got.”

“You killed mama?” Vilen whispers.

“I always thought you were weak. Now I know why. You had none of my blood running through your veins.” Rada sneers.

“Put the gun down, Rada,” Papa demands. “This is madness. What I had with Rachel was fleeting, and before you married her.”

“And yet you left a present behind, didn’t you? Who knows how many more you’ve left planted, god knows where,” Rada grimaces.

“If I had known...”

“It’s too late for apologizes.” Rada cocks his gun, and I prepare to dodge as Vas crouches, ready to tackle him.

A gun explodes. The scent of gunpowder stings my nostrils. Time speeds as I jump up and find Rada on the floor with his son—my half-brother, Vilen, standing with his nine millimeter pointed at the wall.

“I couldn’t let him do it,” Vilen whispers.

“Weak. Just like your whoring mother,” Rada rasps.

“You were behind all of this. Katherine? The attack on my home?” I shake my head, stunned by his viciousness.

“I had more planned for you, too.” He laughs, coughing when he loses his breath.

“Call the others. Set up an emergency meeting with the other families.”

“Sergei!”

“We’re fine, Rashelle. Stay out of here. You don’t need to see this.”

I look at my brothers, knowing this will blow up in our faces. We have another brother. What is that going to mean for all of us moving forward?

“Should we call the Doc?” Vas asks.

“Yes. We won’t be like him and let hate rule us.” Papa growls.
