“Why on earth would you think that?” she asked.

“Because,” Krissy sighed, “of what you said earlier. I mean, I didn’t have a girlfriend every fucking hour, like you said, meanie, but I suppose I could be accused of having slept around.”

Becca tried to keep a straight face even though she really wanted to burst out laughing.

She supposed she could be accused of having slept around?

“Anyway,” Krissy went on, “I just assumed you thought of me as not being a woman someone like you could be serious about.”

Again, Becca kissed Krissy’s fingers.

“Sweetie, I never thought that,” Becca said. “I figured you were just…doing you. Getting it all out of your system while you were still in your twenties.”

Krissy rolled her eyes.

“God, don’t remind me!” she whined. “I’m going to be thirty on my next birthday!”

Becca let go of her hand.

“Relax, the world doesn’t end,” she said.

“That’s true, you would know,” Krissy retorted.

“Fuck you,” Becca said, laughing and tossing a sugar packet at her.

Krissy stuck out her tongue but then her face turned serious.

“Becca? You still believe me, right?”

Becca’s brow furrowed in confusion.

“Believe you about what?”

“That last night was more than just sex for me,” Krissy stated. “You still believe me, right?”

Becca wanted to pull Krissy onto her lap and kiss and love on her.

“I still believe you,” she said. “I promise.”

“Oh my god!” Krissy moaned as they entered Becca’s house after their first official date. “We should run twenty miles to burn off all those calories!”

Becca couldn’t disagree. It hadn’t helped that after the pizza, they had decided to celebrate their first official date by ordering cannolis for dessert.

“If we even ran twenty yards we’d both throw up,” she warned Krissy.

Krissy plopped down on the sofa—the nearest soft furnishing. Her head lolled backwards.

“I wanted to come back and ravish you like a madwoman,” she whined.

Becca joined her on the sofa, surprised the weight of the food in her belly didn’t break the furniture’s frame.

“If you ravished me like a madwoman, we’d also both throw up,” she warned.

“So what do we do?” Krissy asked sleepily.

Becca yawned, the pizza coma was fast approaching.
