as much time as I needed. They were good about letting me off
when I asked for it, even on such short notice.”
“So you left and didn’t sign?” Billy laughed. “I love it.
That must have pissed the old D-bag off.”
“Jesus,” Danica muttered.
“What? You were the one that came up with all the names
for her. I think D-bag is a good one. Capital D because it’s her
first name.”
“Yeah. We so didn’t catch that.”
Quinn smiled at her siblings. They might pretend to dislike
each other- or maybe it wasn’t always pretending because
Billy could be pretty annoying sometime as the little brother-
but at least it was mildly entertaining.
“I did walk out. I basically choked. Dallas actually came
after me and begged me to sign them. She told me it was for
charity. She’s not keeping the money.”
“And you believed that?” Billy scoffed. He looked at her
like she’d been taken for a ride by a phone scammer.
“I did.” Quinn defended herself. “I don’t see why she’d lie
about that. And I do know her. Kind of. I did. I can tell when
she’s lying. Her left eyelid twitches. It wasn’t twitching. She
was being nice, too. Nice enough. Anyway, I didn’t do it for
her, remember? I did it for Grampy. I choked the first time, but
I got through it today. I told Dallas that I wasn’t doing it for
her.”
“She probably didn’t like that.”
“No, she was fine with it. She understood. Why would I do
it for her?”
“So, if you signed the papers, why are we having a
meeting right now? You could have texted us and said you’d
