d shut and he groaned. “This is good. It
almost makes me like emergency family meetings.”
Danica rolled her eyes, which she did so much around
Billy that it was amazing they didn’t go rolling straight out of
their sockets. That was also something their mom liked to say
would happen. “What happened with the lawyer? Is that why
we’re here?”
“Kind of. Um, yeah. I guess.” The slice of pizza Quinn
forced herself to eat to have something in her stomach really
wasn’t sitting very well.
After she hiked it out of the alley where Dallas’ big
confession went down, she’d driven herself home. She thought
a lot about what Dallas told her. She knew she couldn’t keep it
to herself. Her family deserved an explanation. She also
wasn’t sure how her parents would take it, so she thought
she’d tell Danica and Billy about it first.
“Um…” She whispered, but trailed off again.
“Um? You’re saying um a lot for someone who called us
over here,” Billy said between bites.
“You’re such a Neanderthal,” Danica shot back at him. She
was more sympathetic with Quinn. “I can’t imagine it was
easy. Signing the papers.”
“It wasn’t. I had to take yesterday off work and I sat there
and I couldn’t do it. I walked out.”
“What?”
“Yeah. I did. So I had to take today off too. They were
really understanding, since Grampy just passed away and I
told them that I needed some time to deal with his will and
everything. They told me before the funeral that I could take
