she could save her, then slowly walked over. Quinn was
dressed far differently than the day before. She looked
gorgeous, still goddess worthy, but this time she had her hair
pulled into a low ponytail, was wearing almost no makeup,
and sported a yellow blouse tucked into a pair of faded skinny
jeans. She’d chosen matching yellow flats instead of towering
heels.
Maybe she was planning on another fast getaway and
chose more sensible footwear.
Dallas really hoped not.
Just seeing Quinn made Dallas feel buzzed, like there was
a little something extra in the coffee. Quinn wasn’t letting
anything show on her face. She didn’t smile. She didn’t look
agitated. She wasn’t angry like yesterday. She didn’t look
resigned either. She was impossible to read, and that was a
new one for Dallas. She couldn’t always tell exactly what
Quinn was thinking in the past, but usually there was at least
some sign.
Dallas gripped her coffee cup tighter. She tried not to look
at Quinn, since she didn’t want to unnerve her or have her
change her mind again. What Dallas really wanted was to sign
the papers and get back to Tampa. That’s not what I want at
all. It’s what she should want. Anything else was impossible.
Quinn sat down and crossed one leg over the other. She
kept her face turned towards the reception desk.
Dallas stared at her coffee cup and wished Jim would
appear before Quinn got up and left. Neither of them said
