The bell rang again, twice, rapidly, which made Quinn
think that it was Billy on the other side. Only her brother
would stand out there and ring the bell repeatedly. Danica
would just ring it once or twice and wait, but there would be
long intervals between.
When Quinn glanced through the peephole in the door, she
nearly slipped on her robe a second time as she took a step
back in surprise. She flung open the door, totally forgetting
about her attire.
“What are you doing here?”
It wasn’t Danica or Billy or her parents standing on her
doorstep. It was Dallas. Quinn could only gape at her.
“I got on a plane because I wanted to see you. We need to
talk and I thought that we should do it in person. Over the
phone is tough and video isn’t much better. They’re never
going to make up for having the real thing.”
“You- flew all the way here?”
“I did.”
“Where’s your car?” Quinn looked over Dallas’ shoulder.
“Danica actually picked me up. I called her before I got on
the plane. She dropped me off here. She offered to stay, but
she knew you were home, so I told her it was alright. She
didn’t have to wait. If you didn’t plan on answering the door, I
was going to take a cab to the hotel.”
“Would you have tried to break it down if you knew I was
inside?”
“Big kick style like in all the movies?” Dallas laughed.
“No. I’d probably break my leg.” She lifted her jeans to reveal
flip flops. “I’m not exactly dressed for it.”
Dallas looked so amazingly real, in person, that Quinn
