She guessed she’d be royally hooped then. She snatched her
phone out of her favorite baby blue tote with the little birds on
the front, and found the app that she needed to download. She
watched the little circle fill up and finally the app was ready to
go. She started to tap her foot impatiently and actually groaned
out load when she realized that she had to put in a bunch of
personal information. When she finally got to the credit card
part, she had to put in the make and model of the car, the
license plate number, and the meter number.
It probably would have been easier just to pay the dang
ticket. Unless they towed the car. That would suck. She wasn’t
willing to risk it, given that she didn’t know how long she’d be
in the lawyer’s office, so she paid the meter fee with her credit
card through the app and finally was able to start walking back
towards the building she’d seen half an hour before.
It took her a few blocks to orient herself. She walked the
wrong direction twice and finally turned on her phone’s GPS
to orient herself.
She was actually thankful that she could put more time on
the meter away from the car, since it took her way longer to
get to the front door of the building than she thought. Dallas
pushed it open and walked in to find a security guard sitting in
a huge lobby, blocking the elevators.
He was a huge guy who dwarfed even the massive desk he
sat behind. His white shirt was pressed immaculately and she
could see that his pants were black when he stood up to greet
