thought I’d said my goodbyes because we were moving. My

parents were able to find way better jobs there too, which was

part of the reason they never thought about coming back here.

Plus, the weather is a heck of a lot nicer. They got settled in

their life. They got new friends. Their new friends were way

more open-minded, which really helped. It helped them and it

helped me. I always felt like I could be honest with them after

we moved because they were willing to listen. When I told

them that I knew I was a lesbian and that it wasn’t a phase,

they realized that I was right and they trusted me.”

Quinn’s lips pursed. She leaned forward, but she

wasn’t looking at Dallas. She was intently studying their

empty plates. “You’re right. I can’t understand everything that

happened and a lot of that is probably between you and them. I

know that you love your mom and dad. They’re your parents.

I’d be horrified if you didn’t love them or had this big falling

out with them that couldn’t be fixed and had no support. That

would have been awful.”

“It would have been the worst. I’m very lucky to have

them. I have no bad feelings about what they did. It happened.

We both made decisions. I don’t want to talk about blame,

because I never think like that.”

“So you’re not afraid to talk to them when you get

back? To tell them?”

“No. Not at all. They’ll be happy for me. I know they

will.”

“What are you going to tell them?”

“Everything,” Dallas said, without hesitation. “Unless you

don’t want me to. I mean, I wouldn’t tell them all the details

because that’s private, between you and me. I never tell
