Danica stared back. She had that stubborn, entrenched look
on her face. She also looked pissed and uncertain. Danica was
just being a good big sister. She was being protective, but
Quinn was twenty-eight years old and she didn’t feel like she
needed a nanny anymore. She didn’t need Danica to hold her
hand or stand up for her or treat her like she was five years old
and had just made the questionable decision to steal cheese out
of the fridge. That’s right. Their family had a real addiction
when it came to cheese and someone was always sneaking it
out of the fridge late at night, early in the morning, during the
afternoon, or whenever else their parents hadn’t been
watching.
“Fine,” Danica huffed. “I’ll let it go. But you have to tell
me about it later.”
“Danica!”
“Not the gory details. Good lord. I mean how and why it
happened.”
“We both tripped and fell and while we were falling our
clothes magically ripped off, and then we happened to tumble
into a heap of nakedness onto a giant bed. That’s how it
happened.”
Danica screwed up her face and rolled her eyes at the same
time. It was quite a feat, and it also made Quinn laugh, even
though she didn’t want to. “Since it’s my birthday, I’ll give
you a pass. For now. But Quinn- I’m your sister. I don’t want
to see you get hurt. I know that you’re an adult and you hate
me talking to you like this, but please be careful.”
“Did you not just hear what I said about clothes magically
ripping off and-”
“I did.”
