whispered to Quinn as they walked in together.
“Yup. They must have had a lifetime’s supply of them. I
can’t imagine that they’d last long. Although, it’s just a stamp.
I think it’s actually the i
nkpad that they replace.”
“Still. You’d think the thing would decompose over time
or something.”
“I guess rubber lasts for life.”
“Ladies!” Danica clapped her hands. She got out the stop
watch she’d brought. An actual stop watch. It was yellow and
black, the same kind they used in high school for track. She’d
probably kept it after a track session, because where could a
stopwatch even be bought? “Fifteen minutes. If something’s
too expensive, remember the booth number and report back
when we all meet up, which will be right here. If you go over
fifteen minutes, your picks are all disqualified.”
Dallas couldn’t count the number of times they’d done this
before. She didn’t expect to be excited about doing it again,
since it was just a silly game, but she was. She was excited to
be here. With Quinn. With Danica. Back home in Topeka. No
one would know, since she thought she was pretty good at
keeping her emotions from showing all over her face, but that
didn’t water down the pure joy she felt.
Danica held up the stop watch. “Three, two, one, go!” She
clicked down the timer and they were off.
Dallas pulled out her phone as Quinn, Danica, and
Danica’s three friends scattered away from the entrance and
set a timer of her own. She made her way through the booths,
browsing quickly from a distance so that the crowds of people
vying to get in and actually buy things wouldn’t bog her down.
