stop thinking about Monday, and thoughts about Monday led, invariably, to

thoughts about Romi.

“So? Romi…”

Yup. Even the mere mention of Romi’s name started up the tingles. She

felt an answering ache between her legs. “So what?” She practically

growled before she checked herself and moderated her tone. “Sorry. Didn’t

get much sleep this weekend.”

Wynn studied her carefully. “Does that mean the dates are bad or good?”

“How do you know I went out with Shane?”

“Just a guess. You usually do on the weekend. For some reason or other.”

“Maybe because that’s what people do when they’re dating.”

One of Wynn’s bushy white brows dipped down. Kiera didn’t like the

way his lips turned up like he was amused at a particularly bad joke she’d

just told. “Is that what you call it?”

“Call what?”

“Never mind.”

Wynn shook his head, but Kiera never lost the uncomfortable feeling that

stayed with her at all times when Wynn talked about Shane. It was like he

knew Shane was just a cover. That they weren’t really dating. She’d always

suspected that Wynn just knew everything about her, but he had the unfair

advantage of knowing her since before she was even born. They’d never

talked about it. She wasn’t ready, and Wynn would never bring it up. That

wasn’t his way. He never pried. He just let people come to him if they

needed to talk and often listened patiently and impartially.

“Uh, so, are we unpacking the trailer today or what? Are the guys free or

do they have other deliveries?”

“Oh no.” Wynn’s eyebrows waggled again. “You’re not getting out of it

that easy. Yes, we’re unpacking the trailer; yes, the guys are free; and yes,

we are talking about Romi right now because you gave me two weeks as a

trial period and that’s just about up.”
