plenty hot enough outside. It still blew Christina’s mind that it was the well

into October and it was still as hot as any New York summer day. The sun

was so intense overhead that Christina was starting to sweat under her

blouse. Or maybe that heat had nothing to do with the sun at all. Maybe that

heat was being thrown off by Taylor. Heat that Christina felt straight to her

core.

“I came because I have something that I need to tell you. I thought

you’d be pretty pissed when you heard it, but now I figure you’ll probably

be quite happy about it.”

Taylor eyed Christina skeptically. “I can only imagine what disastrous

news you came as bearer of.”

“My VP, as you know, would like the project done as soon as possible,

so she informed me today that she’s clearing my schedule. She assigned all

my meetings to my other co-workers so that I can be here full time.”

Taylor snorted. She assessed Christina coldly. “Let me guess? Dressed

like that you’re just here to look good and distract the guys, and not to be

helpful.”

Christina shouldn’t have, but she couldn’t help herself. She basically

freaking leapt at the chance to make herself clear. She’d been thinking

about how to do it without it being obvious, and she wasn’t going to pass up

the opportunity, no matter how inappropriate it might be.

“Actually, the last thing I would want to impress is a guy. Men aren’t

exactly up my alley. Umm. Like any of them. Ever.”

Taylor reacted so quickly that Christina knew that her first instinct was

correct. It wasn’t just surprise there on her beautiful face. There was

something else. Something in her eyes. A spark of excitement. She blinked

fast though, and it was gone, but the look of surprise still lingered.

“Uh— me neither,” she muttered.

Christina nodded and that was it. In New York, there was such a variety

of all different kinds of people, that it didn’t matter how strange a person
