“What an asshole,” Taylor muttered, staring after the car. Shockingly,

she lifted both hands and flipped the long-gone realtor the double birds.

“God. I’m interested in the place. I really liked it, but I didn’t want him to

know that. I hate that if I buy it, that guy gets paid.”

Christina recalled the guy’s name on several of the signs on the outside

of the building. “He’s the listing agent, so unfortunately, that’s right.”

Taylor nudged the gravel with the toe of her boots. They were worn, but

she’d obviously polished them to look brand new. It said that she took good

care of her things, even if they were broken in already. She probably didn’t

spoil herself by going out to buy the latest things when they came out.

Not that she needed to. Christina knew that Taylor could look good in

anything. Even that thrift store suit she’d worn to their first meeting looked

smoking hot on her.

“So— if I like it, what then? I let you know and someone at your work

approves it? How long would that take?”

Christina realized that she was going to have to tell Taylor that she’d be

the one approving the building. That she was approving most of the

decisions in the project, since on their side, she was managing it. Taylor

seemed to sense that something was off based on how silent Christina was.

She’d been lost in thought and hadn’t even thought what might be flashing

on her face like a big warning sign on the side of the road. Caution. Danger

ahead. That kind of sign.

“Actually, I have something to tell you,” Christina muttered. “I’m going

to be— well— I’m heading up the project. Managing it, I guess. I’ll be the

one making most of the final decisions from here on out, at least on our

end.”

Chapter 10

Taylor

All Taylor heard was Christina telling her that she was going to be the

one making the decisions. Final. Decisions. About Taylor’s own business.
