Christina was counting on her Thursday being better than her

Wednesday. It had to be better. A heck of a lot would have to go wrong to

have it top the previous day.

Unfortunately, as soon as she stepped into the office, breathing hard

because some arsehole had taken her parking space and the lot was full, so

she’d had to find another lot eight blocks away and pound pavement in her

heels so she wouldn’t be late, she realized something was seriously not

right.

For one, there was at least half the office standing around in the

reception area in a tight huddle like they’d just done a pre-game warmup.

They didn’t do that at the office though— pep talks before starting the day,

thank god.

Christina forgot all about her burning lungs and stepped closer to the

huddle. She was able to pick out little snippets of conversation floating

around.

“… Can you believe that?”

“… Porn sites. Seriously.”

“… All the computers…”

“That’s seriously messed up…”

“I wonder what else he was looking at and doing on there…”

“…Ultra disgusting…”

Christina hated office gossip and, instead of trying to get closer to the

huddle or even join in, she walked quickly across the reception area and

scanned her badge at the door to take her back to the offices. It flashed its

regular green light and gave with a sharp click. At least something was still

working normally.

Once she reached her office, she shut the door, dumped her heavy tote

on the floor, and collapsed into her chair. Her first instinct was to get up and

walk to the bathroom to check that her hair and makeup weren’t out of

place from her hazardous run, but she dug out her phone and used the
