lucky with work, with everything else so far was beyond anything she could

have expected when she’d packed up and left her parent’s farm.

“I’ll text you tomorrow then? First thing.”

“No rush.”

“Okay. Have a good night.”

“You too.” Taylor hung up. She sat, studying the wall, absently stroking

Peppy’s ears for a while.

She knew that Adriana really would get back to her as soon as she

could. Adriana was completely organized. She didn’t work during the day.

Juliana did. Adriana worked part time in the evenings at the events centre.

Plus, it was the weekend. Taylor didn’t have anything planned for the next

day. She’d have time to do some research and figure out how to put a

business model together. She had no idea where to start, but she was no

quitter. She knew her idea was a good one. She’d make sure it was beyond

solid before she presented it to anyone.

Chapter 5

Christina

The rough days, when they happened to hit, really hit.

Christina dropped a stack of proposals onto her desk and eyed them

venomously. She might as well have just pitched them into the trash. She

was supposed to have fifteen minutes before her next meeting, but the last

one ran late, since the two bozos in Boardroom B kept droning on about

nonsense that was never going to work in an attempt to get her to put

forward their application for half a million dollars. That would have been

half a mil soaked in gas and set on fire. It would have been a better use of

the cash.

With a huff, Christina grabbed a new file from the cupboard behind her

desk and a fresh pad of paper. She dug in her drawer for a different color

pen. Maybe refreshing everything would give her better luck. So far, her

morning had been a total waste. She was running behind, and even though
