Even though the time had passed quickly, it also felt like an eternity to

Taylor, since she and Christina had a true moment alone. Getting to know

each other was important. Learning how to work together was vital. Still,

Taylor’s body burned. She couldn’t sleep properly at night. Sometimes she

still found it hard to breathe when Christina was near because of the crazy

emotions swirling through her. Her desire was just as strong as ever, so

tamping it down and being patient was extra hard. She knew she wouldn’t

have much free time at the farm, but she figured that they’d have a few

moments here and there when it was just them, and she was looking

forward to that. Even just the simplest of touches would be enough to send

her into a tailspin.

“It’s pretty out here,” Christina remarked as she watched the passing

scenery.

“It’s a lot different than the city. Bander only has a few stores. The

usual, plus a gas station. It’s tiny. Almost everyone lives on farms around

the town, but you won’t see the houses. It’s so spread out. Our closest

neighbors were miles away growing up. If you didn’t leave the farm, you

could have gone days and days without seeing anyone.”

“Coming from New York, that’s a pretty crazy concept to imagine.”

“But you’ve been other places.”

“Mostly cities.”

“I love the farm,” Chloe said from the backseat. She leaned forward and

wrapped one hand around Peppy’s ear. He was sound asleep beside her. “I

like it way better than where we live now.”

Taylor rolled her eyes. Chloe hadn’t exactly forgotten about going back

home. She was elated when Taylor told her they’d be going back for

Thanksgiving and spending the weekend there.

“I’m excited to see it.” Christina turned and gave Chloe a thumbs up.

“You’ll have to show me around.”

“I can show you Meemaw’s chickens!”
