understanding. Kindness. Not a hard brand of a kiss that made

them both crave more until they lost their minds.

That sizzling attraction was there, though, and Giana was

relieved. It meant something. It meant that they fit together

physically. That they said the things they couldn’t voice with

their bodies. That they understood each other and connected

on an elemental level that was so much more profound than

anything else. It was reassuring, and she felt a great gust of

relief, like a strong wind had just blown into the room.

For better or worse, this was their life now. As Giana

brushed a gentle, chaste kiss over Coralyn’s soft, tender lips,

she resolved to make it a fresh start.

Chapter 6

Coralyn

Right after Carol left, things got awkward. Coralyn felt like

she was expected to do something. To be something. She knew

exactly what that was. Be a wife. Be a friend. Be a comfort to

a woman who had lost her memory and was struggling to pick

up the pieces. Be present in some form.

It was all beyond her. She’d had a day to cool off, and

during the hours she’d spent sleeping at her dad’s bedside,

hoping for a change, she’d regretted her anger. She’d regretted

everything. Her deception. Her lies. The plot to hurt Giana.

She’d shown up at the house because she wanted to slip the

necklace back somehow and she wanted to call the whole

thing off. She’d meant to get there before the damn JP was

there, not after. There had been no time to replace the

necklace. Part of her still wanted to make Giana pay for what

she’d done, the irrational, angry part of herself, but she knew

the wedding scheme wasn’t the way.
