“I’m Teddy.”

“Nice to meet you. You’re filling in for Devon?”

“Yep.” I keep my response short.

Not only is he good looking, but Kyle also appears to be a genuinely nice guy. It pisses me off even more.

Hannah appears with the room keys, effectively ending our brief interaction. I notice Sutton and Kyle each receive their own sets. That means nothing, but I take some satisfaction from knowing they’re not sharing the same space.

She’s not yours, Teddy. I’d be rich if I had a dollar for every time I’ve told myself that.

“Camille, Jaxon, and I are planning to do some sightseeing and get dinner. You want to come along?” Amelia asks me.

Based on the looks and touches passing between Camille and Jaxon on the flight—not to mention the way Amelia is eyeing me—it sounds an awful lot like a double date. But the alternative is hanging around the hotel alone, so I agree with a, “Yeah, sure.”

“Awesome. I’ll swing by your room in, like, twenty minutes?”

I nod, then glance at the envelope from Hannah. “I’m in 435.”

“Got it.” Amelia smiles, then heads for the elevators.

Most everyone else already is walking in the same direction. The only other person still standing here is Sutton.

We stare at each other.

She speaks first. “Did you see we passed the Rijksmuseum on the drive?”

“Yeah, I saw.”

“I have one hour free tomorrow afternoon, if you want to go…”

I should say no. Or yes. Instead, I ask, “Won’t Kyle mind?”

She gnaws on her bottom lip. “Teddy…”

“Everyone is waiting.” Grouped by the elevators, watching this interaction.

Sutton doesn’t seem to care. Before I can take more than a step past her, she grabs my arm. “I didn’t know he was coming. If I’d known, I would have…”

“You would havewhat, Sutton?”

“I don’t know. Explained?”

“You don’t owe me an explanation.”

“I know.”

“He seems like a nice guy.” I pull away and continue walking toward the elevators, pretending like I don’t hear her scoff.

We receive more than a couple of curious looks when we rejoin the group, but no one says anything about the delay. On the ride to the fourth floor, Hannah and Suzan run through reminders for tomorrow’s schedule.

Once we reach the carpeted hallway, everyone splits off. I’m surprised to see Kyle is lingering in the hallway, talking to Hannah, while Sutton strides toward the end of the hall and disappears into one of the rooms. Aside from the kiss outside, they don’t act like a couple in love.

I follow Sutton’s lead, walking down the hall until I reach 435. The layout is different from the last room with one queen-size bed instead of two. There’s also a small sitting area, a kitchenette, and a balcony in addition to the en suite. The room is decorated in shades of white and gold.

I take a quick shower and change into a clean pair of jeans and a shirt that doesn’t smell like recycled air. I’m brushing my teeth when there’s a knock at the door.

When I swing it open, Amelia is waiting on the opposite side, smiling. “Ready?”
