My jaw dropped.
How the fuck did he know I’d gone to a hookup?
“You left your phone in your hoodie the other night, and you left your hoodie on the couch.”
“That was for, like, five minutes.”
He grinned.
“You went through my phone?” I tried for indignation but ended up sounding hurt.
“Like you wouldn’t have done the same thing.”
“I…”
He wasn’t wrong. I totally would have.
“So, how’s it feel to be a man?” He stepped closer. “Was it life changing?”
“Fuck off.”
“Nah.” Another step forward. Now only a few feet of space separated us. “It’s my living room too.”
“Why aren’t you out? Your friends get tired of you?”
“Maybe I got tired of them.”
“Yeah.” I snorted. “Like I believe that. They probably got sick of you, just like everyone else.”
“Believe what you want.” He looked away.
Was that… hurt?
No. it couldn’t be.
“So, you have a boyfriend now? You gonna bring him around so I can give him the seal of approval?”
“Why the fuck would I want you to meet my boyfriend?”
“We’re family.” He smirked, all traces of hurt gone. “Isn’t that what family does?”
“Stepfamily. And there’s no boyfriend.”
Why did I tell him that?
It was his eyes.
Ash had an incredibly intense stare, piercing, as if he was trying to see into your very soul. Like he could read your every thought and desire.
It was as exhilarating as it was annoying.
“Awww. Poor Julian is still single.”
“Like you’re one to talk. When was the last time you had a girlfriend?”
I knew he hooked up like crazy. We might not run in the same circles, but Ash was hot and popular. There was no way he wasn’t getting all the ass he wanted, male or female.
He’d had a girlfriend in high school, but we weren’t exactly share-everything besties, so who knew if he’d dated in college?
