“I didn’t know I wanted to go into real estate. I still can’t say it’s a passion. It pays the bills, and I’m good at what I do. So ...” He shrugged.
“As long as you enjoy it. What are you passionate about?”
Parker stilled.
“Sorry, was that too personal?” I asked.
Parker shook his head. “No. It’s not that. It’s just that I don’t actually know.”
I blinked at him. I couldn’t imagine not knowing what I was passionate about. My life was only passion—without it, I would die.
“At least you have time to figure it out,” I said.
“You’re right,” Parker said. “More wine?”
I nodded and filled my almost empty glass.
My head was starting to spin from the wine, but I liked the feeling.
When Parker reached over to fill my glass, his arm brushed against me, and my skin tingled at the contact.
“Sorry,” he said.
I shook my head. “I’m not.”
He glanced at me, and I blushed hard.
“I mean, you don’t have to be sorry. It came out wrong.”
His eyes grew darker, and he smirked at me before filling his own glass.
I picked up my glass and gulped at least half of it down. My skin felt like it was on fire, and the wine was turning me on.
That, and Parker being as close as he was.
I pushed the thought away.
I was here forbusiness. Even though pizza and wine and chatting about personal stuff wasn’t exactly business related.
My glance slid to his lips when he talked about something—I couldn’t even hear what he was saying.
Don’t do that, I scolded myself.
Thinking about kissing him wasn’t business either.
Not even close.

EmilywaseverythingI’dalways looked for in a woman. Go fucking figure that the one person I really wanted to sleep with was my best friend’s sister.
Life just seemed to have it in for me.
My ex only wanted money, and she’d drained me for nearly everything I had, crippling me for a while before I’d managed to hoist myself back up again. My father had passed away when he was the one person I would have wanted to ask for advice from about a million things in life. Including what to do when I liked a girl I wasn’t supposed to like.
And now this.
