My heart races. “What if I don’t get it?”
“I’m sure if you want your father to live, you’ll do whatever you need to, to get the job.” Another leery smile fills his wrinkly face, and when he looks at my breasts again, I know he means I’m to use my body if I have to. That makes me question what kind of man he wants me to work for.
“What kind of information do you need?” I ask, pushing the sordid thoughts of out of my mind.
“Everything. That’s why I need you in his house. This man lives in a heavily-guarded fortress, and I need to know how to get inside.”
“You want to get inside his house?”
“Yes, inside his home, his business, and his life. I need you to get close enough to him and his niece so he trust’s you.” He glances over at the Beast. “You will report to my friend here. You may call him Red. Do we have an agreement, Lucia?”
My God… I can’t think straight.
What if I fail?
No, no. I can’t think like that. Failure isn’t an option.
I’ll get whatever information they need. That’s the only way to save Dad.
“Yes.” I nod.
“Wonderful. Red will brief you on the rest of the job.”
I look at his nonchalant smile, and my stomach twists into knots.
Who is this man?
Clearly, they don’t want to give names if I’m to call his henchman Red.
What about him, though?
“What… what do I call you?” I ask carefully.
A cruel laugh rumbles from his chest.
“My dear, you can call me what everyone else does. El Diablo.”
I was right.
He is the devil.
