Irun through the door and start shooting, praying I’m not too late. The fifty men I brought with me do the same.

I aim for Thiago, but the gunshots do nothing but startle him. The only thing I can be grateful for is that Lucia scrambled to her feet and ran down the corridor.

All hell breaks loose with men firing right and left, the echo of gunfire all around me.

Thiago takes cover behind one of the stone pillars, and I do the same.

Eric shoots Lorenzo when he runs at him, and the other guys take down a few others. We’re equally matched in numbers, but from the look of these people Thiago gathered, my crew surpasses him in strength.

“You motherfucking dog!” I shout at Thiago.

“That’s no way to talk to your brother, is it?”

Fuck. It’s him.

“Fuck you, you can call yourself whatever the fuck you want. You’re no brother to me!” I shout.

He doesn’t like that. He jumps out and fires a round of shots. I have to move to the next pillar to protect myself.

“I know how to fuck you over, brother. I’ll get that little girlfriend of yours and cut her face off.”

My blood boils in my veins when he runs in the opposite direction, the way Lucia went.

I’m about to chase him when something catches my eye.

No… fuck. It’s not something. It’s someone.

My father steps out onto the first-floor balcony holding a gun to Estelle’s head.

I freeze mid-movement and mid-thought.

The vapid smile plastered on his face suggests I was never going to win this.

I’m not even in shock for seeing him after so many years of thinking he was dead.

“Hold fire!” I call out. He holds up his hand for his men to do the same.

“A wise choice, son.” He laughs.

I focus on Estelle. There’s a bruise on her cheek.

When in the hell did they get her?

When?

She was supposed to head back to Argentina days ago.

“She never made it back home, and I suppose so much happened you forgot to check in with her,” my father fills in.

I don’t know what to call him.

Father like I used to, or El Diablo. The devil before me.

“Let her go, Father,” I order. My voice carries around the room.

“No, I don’t think so. I suppose by now you know certain truths. So, you probably know about your mother’s continuous affair with Sebastiano.”
