“Excuse me I have to answer this call,” I say and I’m staying right here. “Gibbs.”
“Hello Aiden. Sorry it took so long. I needed to check out one more thing and it panned out. You guys were right about Federov,” Gibbs says, and I glance at Federov. That lying motherfucker.
“Were we now?”
“Yes. However, it’s a little more serious since he has been investigated and the feds have struck up a deal with him to get to you. If you’re meeting with him now don’t sign anything, don’t say shit to incriminate yourself, and I suggest you deal with him in whatever ways you see fit. Chances are he could also be wearing a wire.”
And that just made my frustration go through the fucking roof. If I weren’t in the club, I’d end the lying bastard before me with my grandfather’s shotgun, taking his head right off his fucking body.
“Thank you, Gibbs. I appreciate the call.”
“No worries. I also found something about Pearson I’m sending over to Dominic in a little while. He’ll call you once he gets it. It’s nothing to get excited over, just something I considered, but need you both to take a look at it.”
Anything in regard to Aleksei gives me hope, but like he said, it’s nothing to get excited about so I don’t allow my hopes to rise.
“Thanks, I’ll wait for his call.”
“Talk later.”
As soon as he hangs up, I look at Ilya. He acknowledges me straightaway because he knows what Gibbs’ call meant.
“Ilya, why don’t you take Mr. Federov to the office and get Joey to fire up the machine and get the contracts over to us.” That’s code for take him out back and kill his ass, then send his body to Joey at the crematorium to handle the rest. That’s what we do with guys wearing wires. “I think we should be able to close business tonight.”
“Sure thing boss,” Ilya replies with the perfect nonchalance while Federov smiles, none the wiser that these are his final minutes on earth.
“Thank you so much, Pakhan. You won’t regret this.”
“No, I won’t.”
He stands with Ilya and Maksim and I watch the two walking away. When they go through the door Maksim turns to me.
“He was wearing a wire?” he asks.
“Most likely. He was working with the feds to get to us, which means there’s something loose somewhere that needs to be addressed. We can’t have the fucking feds sniffing around us now.”
“Jesus Christ. What the fuck could that be?”
“I don’t know, but we’ll find it. Not tonight though.” I can’t look into it tonight. It’s one more work related thing to do with the Brotherhood I know I should do but I don’t want to do. Not tonight. Tonight, the only thing that can make me do work is that call from Dominic or finding out if the person on the roof was from the Order.
Other than that, there’s just one thing I truly want to do.
And I knew I wanted to do it from the moment Miss Angel Face graced me with the sight of herself and taunted me with those lips.
The invisible call of the siren lures me to look down by the bar at the pretty waitress who made me forget.
She’s standing down there with one of the other girls and like last night she’s looking straight at me.
Looking at me and beckoning me with her body to touch and taste her. She makes me want to take that fucking break I didn’t want last night.
She makes me crave it and I find myself engaging in the enticement.
Maksim follows my gaze. “See something you like cousin?”
“Her. I want her. As long as she’s here she’s mine. Get them to send her up to my room and don’t disturb me unless it’s important.”
