It is only with the strongest alliances that you will be able to hunt your enemies, or war will come.
Good luck.
A friend
Of course, when I read it, it freaked me out because Eric was saying he knew there were more people responsible for our father’s death in the Syndicate bombing.
What didn’t make any sense at the time was why he wasn’t actively trying to find them, or why he’d given me the letter and didn’t deliver it himself.
Now I know it was because he was in danger.
When he gave it to me he looked worried. So worried I opened it myself, read it, then took a copy of it.
The plan was to ask him about it, but by the time I got back from L.A. no one could find him or Robert. A week later Jude told us they died in that car crash.
All these long years I kept this letter in the back of my jewelry box. I only took it out after Amy left nights ago.
The letter was addressed to Massimo. Massimo D’Agostino, who Amy told me is the new leader of the Syndicate.
Eric told me to deliver the letter to Massimo’s office. He’d said to get to D’Agostino’s Inc. early enough so there wouldn’t be too many people around, and slip it under Massimo’s door.
I set the letter down and look at the picture of Aiden, recalling how he looked at me in the club. I don’t think I’m likely to forget that look any time soon, or the way my body felt.
I’ve never felt such a stir in my soul before.
The last thing I know I should be doing is getting taken with a man like that. Not given who he is.
I look over the sheets of paper and pack everything away an hour later because I don’t think I’m going to get any more ideas tonight. Or rather this morning.
It’s almost three.
I rest my head on the pillow and sleep.
The next night comes and I set out to repeat the same cycle as the night before because I don’t have much else to do.
However, as I hand in my coat to the cloakroom, I stop short when my gaze lands on the “Jobs Available” sign on the notice board near the door.
Like the sign welcoming patrons to the house of sin it too is in gold and black and the job in question is for a special waitress.
It says: Immediate start and must be willing to do anything…
It feels like a sign from Hell.
The devil’s calling me to join him, and this is one invitation I can’t decline.
