“No thanks to you,” he replies flatly. “I seriously can’t believe you emotionally blackmailed me into winning.
‘ Come on, baby, you can’t kill me! What kind of boyfrienddoes that make you? ’” Daniel mimics in a falsetto voice not even remotely close to Alex’s.
“Hey, Sienna wasn’t gonna come save us since she was too busy fraternizing with the enemy. So I had to take some drastic measures, all right?” She says, looping an arm over her boyfriend, but not before turning around to send me a sly wink. I roll my eyes.
Cara and Simon reunite in front of me as well and I slow down my pace to match Kayden’s so we can have some privacy.
When he sees me, a ridiculous smile forms on his beautifully sculpted face. He shoves his hands into the pockets of his jumpsuit, meeting my gaze with a shy, uncertain look.
“So the kiss . . . ?” His voice trails off as he waits for me to finish the sentence.
“Was part of my villainous plan to leave you vulnerable so Alex and Cara could pick off their boyfriends in a badass way that James Bond would be jealous of? Definitely not.
That’s way too evil.” I shake my head.
He stops abruptly in his tracks. “It was real, then?”
“As real as it can ever be,” I whisper, looking up at him with renewed affection.
A slow smile spreads across Kayden’s face. He reaches down to entwine his fingers with mine and gives my hand a tight squeeze, reaffirming his feelings for me.
“Good,” Kayden says, pleased. “Let’s go home then.”

When we’ve parked, Kayden helps me out of the truck and tugs on my hand, leading me to the stairs rather than the elevator. He’s in a rush and I’m all for it. We’re flying up and up and up, my legs barely catching up as he propels me forward, and I’m so breathless from how fast we’re going that by the time we reach our door, my knees feel like they’re about to give out. But I refuse to let something as insignificant as lack of oxygen keep me from what I think is about to happen.
When Kayden produces the apartment key from his pocket, I’ve never felt more relieved.
The door gets unlocked.
He steps in.
I step in after him.
We look at each other, our eyes clouded with lust.
We haven’t even been in the apartment for five seconds before Kayden steps forward and devours my lips with his.
Neither of us can keep our hands off the other. He cradles my face with his huge hands as he invades my mouth, just like I’d fantasized him doing. I don’t think I can ever get enough of kissing this man. Pandora’s box opened the second our lips touched in that fort, and I don’t ever want to go back to the time when I didn’t know how it felt to be kissed by him.
Our bodies ripple against each other with urgency. I wind my arms around his neck as he peppers sweet kisses down my face onto my body, prompting a moan to tear out of me. I bring his face up with my hands so I can kiss him again, this time with more need and desperation.
We probably reek of sweat and paint but it doesn’t matter.
Nothing matters.
All that matters is him. This. Us.
Kayden slides his hands down to cup my butt and in response, I curl my legs around his hips and circle my arms around him, allowing him to take me anywhere he wishes. I hope he knows where I want us to go. I wonder if he can feel the erratic pounding of my heart against him. I can certainly feel his.
Kayden continues kissing me as he walks over to his bedroom, only pausing long enough to kick the door open.
It doesn’t budge.
He kicks it again. Still nothing.
I laugh against his lips. “Here. Let me.”
