His stare sliced behind me to the mustached dude in the driver’s seat, severe determination reforming his face. James stood tall and mighty, stalking around the front of the car with fists at his sides.

My lips went completely dry as I watched him move.

“Dude, If you don’t drive right now, he’s gonna rip your door off.”

Fear slapped the driver’s eyes wide when I looked his way, and finally, his hand fell to the gear shift and moved us out of park. The tiny Chevy jerked in a start and sped away as he laid his foot on the gas, out of the parking lot, down the street, away from a shouting James.

This time…

No matter how hot the fire screamed…

I didn’t look back.
