Seth rolls his eyes. “Is that what a party planner does? Help incredibly rich assholes fulfill their dumbass demands?”

Lacey crosses her arms. “Colin Cane is high society. A mover and shaker of LA. He has galas, Seth.”

“Yeah, but he hires you to throw the party.” Seth laughs at the ridiculous notion. “So you’re tellin’ me you do all the work and he takes all the credit?”

Her lips twitch. “Something like that.”

He rubs his hands together, deciding to just go with it. The sooner he helps her out, the sooner she’ll rest and fucking relax. “Okay, so tell me about this party.”

“It’s on Saturday night. The vibe is Death meets Disney. The Once Upon a Dark Night party.”

Seth wrinkles his nose. “Isn’t that the same thing? Or is that Batman?”

She closes her eyes, pained. “Seth ... can you just help me?”

He coughs, trying to smother a smirk. The vein in her temple looks like it’s on her last nerve. “Sure, princess. What do you need me to do?”

Her expression remains stern, but he sees a flicker of relief in her eyes. “Return the linens to the address on the box. Find the new ones and have them delivered to Colin’s house. I’ll text you the address.”

“Fine. But if I do that, you’re doin’ this ...”

With a quick step, Seth scoops Lacey up in his arms. Ignoring her yelp of protest, he carries her to the living room, depositing her gently on the couch. If Lacey isn’t going to do it herself, he’s damn sure going to make her listen. He grabs her laptop off the counter, resisting the urge to toss it into the sink, and hands it to her. “If you’re gonna work, you rest too. I’ll do the runnin’ around.”

Her cheeks color, something stirring in her eyes. “Okay. I will.”

The heavy-lidded look she’s giving him is like a hook in his sternum. Dry-mouthed, he turns on his heel, picks up the linens and strides for the door.

He’s gotta go. Now. Before he takes her impossibly beautiful face in his hands and kisses her senseless.

This is not what he needs right now.

This is not what he needs at all.
