Epilogue
Kassandra
I had taken my prophesized place beside Markos’ side. I understood now that everything he had done to me had been a part of the demands of fate. He was a vampire, and he was also the devil, but now, he was mine. He had claimed me forever and with that, I’d been granted power equal to his own.
I was stronger, faster, and more intelligent than I had ever been, and it was all thanks to him.
I licked my lips, the pointed ends of my canines sharp and present reminders of our undying bond.
Markos and I sat, side by side in an extravagant temple built from stone, gold, and precious gemstones. All around me, the walls glittered from the night sky, the moon bright and everlasting.
The sun hadn’t risen since I’d awoke and become my true self.
The humans lived to worship us. Their lives were easier, simpler, as if they were made to bow down to our whim. It was as though they craved their subjugation.
Through our rule, there was no more war, no more world hunger or insane, power-hungry grabs for control and influence. By taking away the bright allure of freedom and the promise of an individual identity, their lives became peaceful. The world grew green again, the air clear and the oceans clean.
Life on Earth flourished.
Humans were made to kneel before Markos and me in complete submission and offer us total and utter devotion.
They were made to worship us at our feet.
Markos took my hand in his and he beamed in my direction. He was proud of how well I had taken to my role beside him. But I agreed with him. I was made for this.
“You look as radiant as ever, Kassandra,” he said, his voice a gentle hum that ignited every single one of my senses.
“I’m feeling a bit thirsty,” I answered, looking out at all the naked humans kneeling in the temple, heads bowed and murmuring soft prayers in our direction.
Markos clicked his tongue and a beautiful, naked woman scuttled forward, her hands behind her back and her eyes on the floor.
“I have a present for you. I found her hidden away among the masses. She’s a virgin and will likely have the sweetest blood you’ve ever tasted,” he replied, and I shivered with desire. My mouth watered at such a treat.
He took the woman’s hand and maneuvered her between us. I edged forward, threading my fingers through her hair and pulling her head back, exposing her pale, delectable throat. I kissed her neck, tracing my tongue along her skin and purring at the sweet taste.
Markos bared his teeth and I did mine.
The saccharine taste of her blood rushed over the surface of my tongue and I moaned low in my throat.
“Be careful not to drink too deeply, Kassandra, because though her blood may taste sweet, her worship will be even sweeter,” Markos warned, although his tone was warm, open, and full of love for me.
“I will. Together, we’ll rule the world for the rest of its days,” I answered.
“I love you, my warrior,” Markos breathed, and my heart grew full to bursting.
“I love you too, Markos,” I whispered, meaning every word.
I bit down on the virgin’s throat, taking one last deep mouthful of her sweetness.
Now, we consumed the world together.
Forever.
