Kingston is buttoning up his shirt when I step out of the closet. When he turns around, his jaw hits the floor for the second time today.
“Sweetie, close your mouth or flies will get in,” I tease him.
That snaps him out of it and he mock glares at me.
I brush my hair and plait it in a side braid. And then I help him with his tie. This feels so domesticated, like a dream.
“There,” I pat his chest as I finish tying it for him.
“Thanks. And you look beautiful by the way,” he gushes and kisses my nose.
“Thank you. I’m going to check on my brother,” I rush from the room, needing air.
“I’ll meet you downstairs,” he calls after me.
I knock on Thorn’s door. I hear his frustration so I open the door to him trying to tie his tie.
“Here I got you,” I take over and finish tying it for him. Once I’m done, I step back and admire my brother all dressed up.
He’s going to be a lady killer someday, breaking hearts all over.
“Oh my God, Briar,” he gasps loudly, startling me.
“What?”
“You look amazing,” he says.
“Thank you, Little Brother,” I blush.
“I really mean it,” he replies.
“I know you do. So do you,” I give him a quick hug .
“Thank you for tying my tie,” he says.
“Do you feel like this is moving too fast?”
“Huh?”
“This, being here? I feel like this is normal like I’m supposed to be here with him and you. It feels natural. Does that make sense?”
He chuckles, “Just go with it. King is a good guy.”
“I know. I just don’t want him to feel like he has to do this or that I’m taking advantage of him.”
“He doesn’t. I think he really likes you.”
“I like him, too. I just don’t want to feel like it’s being rushed.”
“I don’t think it is. Shall we go? We don’t want Romeo waiting too long,” he holds his arm out like a gentleman and I just roll my eyes with a chuckle.
Kingston takes us to a fancy restaurant. I can’t even pronounce the name.
Now I know how the other half lives. The food is good. We let Kingston order for us since we couldn’t pronounce the food or even know what it was.
But it was good and I liked dressing up for an evening, but I wish it was a taco truck and jeans and tees, with a walk on the ocean.
Kingston is trying and I like that, even though he doesn’t have to try at all.
