“Hi, I’m Briar, what can I get you?” I smile as I take out my pad and pen…and then I freeze.

Holy shit, these guys are gorgeous. Since they haven’t even acknowledged me yet, I take my time to study them. One is older, probably early 30s. The other one is my age, maybe older, though not by much. One has dark brown hair and green eyes and the other one has black hair, blue eyes. I can see a hint of a tattoo on his arm and bruises near his face. Wonder where he got the bruises? He is beautiful in a bad boy way. He reminds me of Lennon in a way. I haven’t thought of him in a while, my boy next door, the love of my life, until he left us. I shake those thoughts from my head as they speak.

“I’ll have a sweet tea and a double cheeseburger,” the green eyed one says with a silky voice.

The kind you hear in movies that make your panties wet and you want to climb the hero like a tree.

And yeah, that might have happened just now.

He closes his menu and hands it to me as I turn to the black-haired man, “and you?”

“Beer, Corona, and chicken fried steak,” his voice is gravelly and sexy.

“It’s noon, Lane,” the green-eyed one shakes his head.

“I don’t have anywhere else to be,” he doesn’t look at me ever, the one called Lane.

“I’ll put your orders in and be back with your drinks,” I collect the menus and head toward the kitchen, calling out my order.

“Got it,” Jerry salutes me and I chuckle.

I go to the counter area and fill a glass with tea and uncap the beer before addressing my brother.

“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be looking for a job?”

I look over my shoulder at him as I grab a tray. He graduated and promised he would look for a job.

I gasp when he turns to me, almost dropping the drinks and tray.

“What happened to your face?”

“I am looking for a job, I found a gym and it’s just bruised. I had my first fight, Briar, an actual fight,” he says.

“You know how I feel about them, Thorn,” I sigh.

“I know, but you know this is what I want to do. The guy I fought gave me a card for a coach. I start tomorrow at eight in the morning. I promise to find a job, I’ll bus tables here if I have to,” he insists.

“Okay, just be careful,” I warn. I know I promised him that he would get to follow his dreams if he graduated school, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

“I will,” he promises.

I leave him to his social media surfing and take the drinks to the table.

“Here you go. I’ll be right back with your food,” I turn to leave until the green-eyed man speaks.

“Take your time, hot stuff,” he smiles and winks. I blush, giving him a small smile.

“Stop flirting with the help,” Lane sighs.

“I wasn’t flirting,” the man states.

“It’s okay, I’ll go get your food,” I practically run off, not wanting to be insulted again.

I pick up their food and deliver it without saying anything, turning to leave quickly.

“I want to apologize for my grumpy friend here. He gets angry when he doesn’t eat,” green-eyed man says.

“Well I hope you keep him fed so he doesn’t treat others like this,” I grumble.
