I lean over, trying to catch my breath as they declare me the winner and I watch Lane being cuffed.
“I’ll get you back,” is the last thing he says to me as he’s taken out to get medical attention and then down to the police station.
Briar
I watch the fight with bated breath, not knowing what was being said, though it was apparent there was anger on both faces.
When Lane finally went down, I watched him being put in handcuffs as a medic checked him out. Clear as day, I could read his lips and the threat that slipped from them.
I also think he mentioned Remo, Tristan, and Holden.
That can’t be good since the look in Kingston’s eyes is murderous.
“I wonder what he said,” I say to Holden who shrugs.
“I’m sure we’ll find out soon,” he says, squeezing my hand.
Holden
I’m wondering the same thing. Kingston looks absolutely furious, I’m almost scared. Did Lane say something about my feelings? Does Lane know what we did in here, or what I did? I grab Briar’s chin and kiss her one last time, throwing all my emotions into it as she does. Right as I let her go, the door is thrown open.
Kingston
“What is going on?” I demand as both of them jump.
“Nothing, just watching the fight. Congrats, Bro,” Holden says, getting up to shake my hand.
“Yeah, thanks. Is it true?” I hiss, ignoring his hand.
“Is what true?” I snarl at him. I can see Briar shaking in the corner, scared.
“Do you have feelings for Briar?”
“Yes.”
I think I might have heard him wrong. Did he just say yes?
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Kingston, let’s go back to the room. You need to shower and ice your hands,” Briar says, stepping toward me, placing her hand on my arm. I shake her off.
“No, Briar. I want to hear what Holden has to say,” I say, not looking at her.
“Now is not the time,” she starts.
“Now is the perfect time. I want to know,” I growl. Even Holden takes a step back from me, getting the picture that I’m really angry.
“I love you, Kingston. There is no one else,” she whispers, though I’m not really listening to her.
“Yes, I love her. I always will. I’m not going to act on it. I will always be there for her. You are my friend and I wouldn’t betray you like that. If I have to love her from the sidelines I will. I wasn’t going to tell you, but I’m guessing Lane said something,” he says.
I sit down on the couch with my head in my hands and take a breath. My emotions are all over the place.
“I’m sorry, Holden. I know you never would, I just don’t want to lose her,” I say.
“She loves you,” Holden adds.
“I’m still here,” Briar whispers.
