“What are you two whispering about?” I ask Holden.
“Nothing,” Briar says.
“I’ll tell you later,” Holden says at the same time.
“Okay,” I will hold him to that as I set her plate in front of her.
“Thank you, love,” she smiles at me, but it still doesn’t reach her eyes and I hate that.
“Anything for you, sweetheart,” I say before digging into my own plate.
“We still going to the gym?” Caleb asks. Tristan had sent a text and Caleb and Remo only showed up. Piper slept in.
“Yeah,” I nod.
“I was going to just veg out in the room,” Briar says.
“Okay. I thought you were going to go shopping,” I state.
“I think I’ll just stay in,” she says softly.
“Piper still wants to go out. We can meet up with you later,” Caleb says.
“I can stay with Briar,” Remo speaks up and Holden decides to go with the others.
We eat in peace and when we leave, Lane is gone.
“I’ll meet up with you guys outside,” Holden says. “I want to walk them to the elevator.” Caleb and Piper head out as we make our way through the casino to the elevators.
Briar’s eyes go wide. Something is up.
We stop in front of the elevators and I wheel on them.
“Spill it. Something is wrong. What is going on?” I don’t mean to sound like an asshole, but I need to know why she’s upset.
“Promise me you won’t get mad?” she asks. Did something happen? Did she cheat on me?
“Can’t make any promises but continue,” I gesture to her, but she doesn’t look me in the face.
“Sit down, Kingston,” Holden says and now I feel like I’m going to punch someone in the face.
“Just tell me,” I snarl.
“Calm down, you’re upsetting Briar,” Remo warns. I don’t give a fuck right now, I want to know what the fuck is going on.
“I told her to tell you but she thinks you will hate her,” Holden says.
“Mad? I’m fucking furious. How could you make a move on her?” I start to yell and bring my volume down since we’re in public.
“What? No,” he exclaims.
“Then what is it?”
“Lane cornered her near the lifts. He, ummmm, he….” Holden starts to stutter.
“He what? I’m waiting,” I snap and now Briar is crying. Remo is trying to comfort her.
“He touched her, she said no, and then I showed up,” he rushes out. He said it so fast, I don’t think I heard him correctly.
