The coworker barely paid any attention. Keeping his eyes to the ground, he moved toward the walk-in freezer. I met Petra’s eyes, and she laughed. We had been caught by the one person who didn’t give a damn.

I was sorely tempted to pull her back into my arms and continue where we had left off. But she pressed her lips together, telling me she didn’t want to chance it. I reached out to set her shirt back where it belonged.

Her eyes followed mine with a delirious glaze that told me I had done a good job. Her cheeks were flushed, and if it was even possible, she looked more attractive than ever. My crotch was stiff and aching for relief, but it wasn’t going to happen right then. At least I had made myself clear and discovered that Petra was both interested and available.

Before I could ask her out on a more formal date, Chad burst from his office. Gavin hurried after him, trying to talk the man back down. I locked eyes with my former teammate and gave him a shit-eating grin. He had done his job, and I would be eternally grateful.

“We’ll be in touch,” Gavin promised the owner.

“Right,” I agreed, looking directly at Petra. “I’ll be in touch.”

“Three o’clock, right?” she responded, naming my habitual hour of arrival.

“Can’t wait,” I said with a smile.

Together, Gavin and I hustled out the door, having both scored big. We landed the bakery as an investment opportunity, but more importantly, I got to first base with Petra. Gavin gave me hell as we walked to our respective cars. We were due in the office in a few minutes, so we didn’t have time to compare notes. But I was clearly the winner, and we both knew it. I couldn’t wait until the afternoon when I would see her again. It was the only thing on my mind.
