THE VEGAS ACCIDENT (PREVIEW)
DESCRIPTION
It’s hard to keep an accidental marriage a secret when you end up pregnant.
Yes, we were stupid in Vegas.
But the stupidity didn’t just end there.
It continued after the trip was over and Luke became my temporary roommate.
Luke… as in my brother’s best friend.
As in my new husband.
My accidental husband.
Did I say baby daddy yet?
Luke is way older than me.
Basically, he’s everything he shouldn’t be.
And I’m everything I shouldn’t be either — for example, pregnant.
Luke might be the man of my dreams.
But not every dream comes true.
Especially if it’s packaged with an accidental ring and an accidental baby.
PROLOGUE: IMOGENE
It was a sea of glitter and a cacophony of coins. Everywhere I looked, people were holding out hope for the once-in-a-lifetime draw. I probably used up five bucks before hitting my winning streak. After enough prayer and Long Island Iced Teas, my tides turned. I won ten dollars in the nickel slot machine, and then I won a little more in baccarat.
It wasn’t much, just enough to cover my bar tab.
Honestly, I didn’t care if I lost everything but the clothes off my back. It was the first honest vacation I’d had in months, maybe years. My champagne-sequined mini-dress reflected the casino’s Technicolor decor, and the dry Nevada heat was doing wonders for my curls. It didn’t matter that the rest of my group was off at some professional hockey game. I was content to wander among the crowds on my own.
I just didn’t expect to hear a familiar laugh wander my way from a poker table. My eyes took a second to focus, but I saw him there laughing. His tousled dark hair and unfair physique were equally unmistakable.
“Luke!” I called out in my Southern lilt. “Luke, why aren’t you at the hockey game?”
Everyone else had gone. My older brother and his bride-to-be were so excited to finish their joint bachelor and bachelorette trips with the event. I thought everyone else called it an excellent idea, but Luke had always been unexpected. He was a dark horse with a crooked grin, wild eyes, and more charm than a man should probably possess. As I closed the gap between us, his laughter faded, but Luke’s smile remained as those vibrant green eyes met mine.
“Hello to you too,” he replied coolly.
“Don’t you like hockey? I thought you were trying to spend all the time you could with Andrew.”
“I’m your brother’s best man, Imogene,” Luke remarked before sipping his cocktail. “That doesn’t mean I need to follow him everywhere on this trip. What about you?”
“I’m just a bridesmaid,” I declared. “They’ll be fine without me.”
The dealer cleared his throat nearby. “Sir?”
Luke didn’t look at his cards or the man in the little bowtie. He just kept smiling at me, his green eyes intent.
“What do you think, Imogene?” Luke asked me without any other information. “Should I hold or let this hand ride?”
