“I don’t think so,” she replied. Even though she’d shot me down, she made no move to separate herself.
“I’m not looking for anything serious,” I told her. “Just a bit of fun.”
“I might or might not be in a relationship.” She hesitated.
“Sounds complicated,” I replied.
“It is.” Her adorable face scrunched up with what I could only assume was frustration. “He yells at me, but I can tell that he wants something more. Just today, we had a good conversation.”
“Has he asked you out?” I responded.
“No.”
“Has he kissed you?”
“No.”
“Has he made any request that would lead you to think he wants a monogamous relationship?”
“No.” She shook her head.
“He doesn’t know what he’s missing then,” I concluded.
She blushed, turning into the dance instead of away from it.
“I promise I won’t get between you and your mystery man,” I said. “But if you’re interested in a bit of harmless sport, I’d be happy to provide.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Her words seemed to shut me down, but her body language said otherwise.
I had a suspicion that I could seal the deal with just a few more words of encouragement. The hunt was on. I had her in my sights and knew it was just a matter of time before I could convince her to come home with me.
We took a break from all the exertion, going back to order another drink. Her friend was nowhere in sight, probably off dancing with some other man. I kept our chatter light and flirtatious, applying no pressure. She had to come to her own conclusion, even though I knew what it would be.
She was at least ten years younger than me, but that didn’t bother me at all. If anything, it was an even bigger turn-on. I asked her point blank if she was a university student, and she said no. That meant she was fair game as far as I was concerned.
This other guy that she was hung up on was a bigger problem. As far as I could see, the relationship hadn’t actually been established yet. I used that to my advantage, telling her she was free to play around as long as her potential boyfriend hadn’t made a move yet. Finally, after two hours of chipping away at her reserves, I got what I was hoping for.
She looked up, met my eyes, and said, “Let’s go.”
CHAPTERSEVEN
BREANNA
I was worried about Flynn, but I knew I shouldn’t be. Connor was right: We hadn’t made any deal that would preclude sex with an outsider. Just because Flynn was maddeningly attractive didn’t mean I was bound to him in any way.
I wanted to leave the door open, but what Connor was proposing wouldn’t mess with that at all. If Flynn did change his mind and offer me more than just a professional relationship, I wouldn’t have to turn him down. It wasn’t cheating. I wasn’t even sure if I liked Flynn. There was just that mutual attraction that neither of us was able to act on.
One night with Connor wouldn’t hurt Flynn. He’d said himself that he wasn’t free to pursue me. He didn’t really expect me to save myself on the off chance that he would have a change of heart.
I struggled with the decision for hours while Connor made pleasant conversation. He was friendly and charming, not to mention good looking. I knew he was older than me, but in his condition, I didn’t see how that would matter.
He seemed concerned over whether I was a student or not. Putting his mind to rest, I told him I was in Ireland to work, not to study. After that, all bets were off. He was gentle and complimentary, but his mission was clear. He wanted to spend the night together.
I finally capitulated. Looking around for Millie, I couldn’t find her. We had come together in her car, so I knew that she had a ride home. I texted her to let her know I was leaving.
With that hot guy?she asked.
Yes,I replied with a laughing emoji.
