“Originally, Bryan thought you would wait until after their trip in three weeks. I guessed a month after the wedding.”

“What does the winner get?”

She laughs, putting the last bit of her croissant back on her knee.

“Bragging rights.”

I laugh out loud. Literally.

“So Catherine came up with it, then?”

We soon get settled into work, and Jenna taps away on her iPad, filling up my diary for the next couple of weeks. Then she hands me the flight authorization forms and I look back at her. Sara put in a request for flights and accommodation for Miami in two weeks. Why was I just hearing this now, and why the hell was she booking a commercial flight when she knows she can use my plane?

I pick up the phone and dial my fiancée’s extension.

“Ady, I’m kind of busy at the minute. Can I call you back?”

“Sure. Come up to the office when you get a minute.”

I hang up the phone and don’t miss the smirk on Jenna’s face.

Sara is the only person in the company, apart from Jenna, who doesn’t drop everything when I call.

“Shut up,” I say, laughing, and we finish off the rest of the week's plans.

Simon walksinto my office and sits himself down in the chair. He makes himself at home. Part of me is a little annoyed. I hate people thinking they can make themselves at home here. This is my domain. Well, apart from Sara, she can make herself at home anywhere.

“So, how is it now that Sara’s working in the department?” I ask as I finish the email I was working on.

“Adrien. She is a dream come true. Everyone loves her down there. She’s got a good team working for her. It reminded me a bit of our early days here.”

He has always wanted to be friendly. I just can’t quite connect with him. He brings something unique to the team.

“She has them eating out of the palm of her hand. I also hear congratulations are in order?”

This is the longest amount of time we have talked that hasn’t involved some sort of campaign we were working on.

“Yeah. Thanks.”

And just as quick as if sensing my mood, he dives straight into work mode. I’ve never felt equal parts relieved and a little sad that my staff find so stand-offish.

Twenty minutes into the meeting, Sara turns up and looks flushed. She gives us an update on the things she’s been working on, but never completely looks relaxed. I try my telepathic thing, but it only seems to work on Bryan. Shame.

Simon picks up his stuff and leaves us in my office.

Jenna pops her head in to see if we need anything before quickly leaving my office.

“So tonight, how do you fancy going out for a change?”

Sara’s face lights up, and I know I’ve said the right thing.

“We need to celebrate, after all.”

“I thought we did that last night,” she says before going a nice shade of pink.

“Oh we did. I was thinking, something less private.”

“You mean to let the throngs of women know you’re no longer available?”
