“We did. We saw Jaime and Katie while we were out too,” Bryan says.

I feel myself tense. Adrien looks at me, obviously feeling it.

“They were wondering where you two were hiding,” continued Bryan.

“We wanted some best friend time,” Catherine winked at me.

Adrien continues his look as if screaming this conversation is going to be continued when we get home.

God, I’m in so much trouble. I’m already calling his place home.

We spend the rest of the night completely comfortable, all of us together. All of us friends for years. It’s great seeing this completely new side of Adrien. He’s a different man in a lot of ways than he was five years ago. Hearing how Bryan talks about him, I can tell he misses his best friend just as much as I missed Catherine.

Adrien putshis keys in the bowl on the breakfast bar. He pulls me into the living area sitting on the couch pulling me on top of him. I move to straddle him and wiggle my eyebrows at him. He smiles at me but keeps his hands on my hips, casually rubbing them as if he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, as if it's the most natural thing in the world.

I can tell he’s got something on his mind.

“Sara, why did you tense up every time Jaime and Katie got brought up in conversation?”

I knew he’d noticed. The man is excellent at reading my body language, like it’s his favorite book.

“It’s nothing. I just don’t get along with them, that’s all. It’s just a total clash of personalities.”

He continues to gently stroke my hips.

“I slept with Katie a couple of months ago. I thought she’d said something to you.”

I still instantly. Look directly into his eyes. I move to get off his lap, not out of annoyance, far from it. More just so I could be more comfortable.

Of course, Adrien holds me tighter to him. He needs us to have this contact.

“Okay.”

His breathing gets slightly shallow. He looks like he’s expecting me to be annoyed or blowup something.

“Ady look. I know you never cheated when we were together, though there is a gray area of when we broke up.”

He sighs, knowing full well what I’m talking about.

“Look, I know you haven’t been a monk in the last five years. I know I haven’t, but thank you for telling me. How long ago was it?”

“Earlier in the year. I was here on business.”

“Ok. Right. Well, thanks for telling me. I mean that. If I know Katie at all, though, she’s just waiting to drop that bomb.”

It also explains the looks I was getting off her at my dress fitting. It’s obvious now that she was hoping for a round two with Adrien at the wedding.

“I wasn’t sure if she’d said something when you’d been to your dress fitting.”

“No, she didn’t though, if I know Katie, it’s killing her holding her water on this one.”

He pulls me closer to him and gently kisses me. Just a nice, gentle kiss.

“What did I do to deserve you?”

That makes me laugh. I was thinking the same thing. I don’t tell him that, at least I don’t think so. Unless he’s figured out how to read minds.

“Ady, I love you, and I trust you. The rest we’ll just deal with as we move back into this crazy whirlwind we are having.”
