“Do you live here?”
“Yes. Dane is my mate.” There is that word again. “You will meet him later. I will bring him here so you can meet. They had to go into a meeting to catch up on everything, but it shouldn’t take too long.”
Before I can ask her about why she calls Dane her mate, another woman walks in with a plate in hand. This must be Anastasia.
“Hi, I believe you must be hungry after such a long flight.”
“Yes, I find as time passes, my appetite grows too. I am starving.”
She smiles as she places the tray on my lap.
“Ulrich told me you were kidnapped. I’m so sorry,” Anastasia says.
“Ulrich is her mate,” Freya interrupts.
“Why do you call them mates?”
Now that I got the opportunity again, I am not going to waste it. But I see that my question has both women looking at each other in surprise.
“Hasn’t Eirik told you about the Elementals?” Anastasia asks.
“That they are different? Yes, but are they?”
My question has both women suddenly grinning.
“So, you don’t believe him?” Freya asks.
“Well, he said they’re not human.” I roll my eyes for emphasis, but I see both women don’t seem surprised.
“It’s true,” Freya replies,
“So, the whole ‘you’re my mate’ speech is true?” Why would these women confirm his story if it wasn’t true?
“Yes, it is,” Anastasia confirms. “Ulrich is mine, Dane is Freya’s and Dag is Esmeralda’s.”
“He said that elementals only have one mate and that I am his. Does that mean that he has never… umm… you know?” My question has both women burst out laughing.
“Oh, I wish, wouldn’t that be something?” Anastasia replies with a grin.
“If you are asking if they sleep around, oh yeah. And to be fair, with all the years they have lived to have to wait for their mate would be a crime, but the moment they find us then that is it.” She shrugs at that. “They are completely and utterly committed, even if they wanted to it wouldn’t work with anyone else.” She winks when saying that.
“Are you serious?”
They both nod at my question.
“You said all the years they have lived, how old are they?”
“Well, I think Eirik is one of the oldest here, after Tor, that is. He would be five or six hundred years old.”
She must be joking.
“Hi, sorry I’m late.” My eyes raise to look at the woman standing in the doorway. This must be Esmeralda, and if I remember correctly, Dag’s mate. This is crazy. I can’t believe that I am actually taking them seriously.
“Esmeralda, come meet Siena,” Anastasia calls, and I see when she approaches that she must be in her early stages of pregnancy. Does that mean that they can have children?
“We were just updating Siena on our guys,” Freya says. “Why don’t you take a seat next to her and relax.”
This has Esmeralda sigh, and by the scowl on her face I would say in irritation.
