“Are you doing that?”

“Yes.”

“Do something else.” I need to make sure that it is him moving the door.

The door stops moving and then one of the couch pillows that must have been thrown on the floor when Dane came to sit here, lifts into the air, moving towards us. My mouth hangs open as the pillow drops onto my lap. Looking up at Dane, I can feel myself smiling. Finally, there is someone like me in this world! I throw my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. He probably finds my reaction strange, but he has no idea how relieved I am to find someone different like me.

“If I get this reaction from you with a little trick like that, then I will make sure to keep you entertained for the rest of our lives,” he says, which has me leaning back and looking up at him just as his head lowers to kiss me. It’s a kiss that overwhelms my every thought. I’ve never been kissed like that before. The only kisses I’ve experienced are while filming the movie I’m here for, and I swear I would rather be licking an ashtray than kissing my co-star Kane.

His hand cups the back of my head as he deepens the kiss. Dane is so much bigger than me that it feels like I’m engulfed in his arms. He makes me feel protected, dainty, and very feminine. I’ve had many men ask me out, and I’ve even gone out on a few dates, but I’ve never got close enough to go on a second date. There was always something that repelled me about them, but with Dane, I feel like I want more.

I can feel his hardness under my ass, and instead of retreating, I want more. I’ve never been with a man before—something that would have the paparazzi going crazy if they ever found out. I’m old-fashioned and never felt the need to sleep with anyone just because. I want my first time to be with someone that calls to me—someone that makes me lose my mind with passion and I think I’ve just met that someone because I’m not thinking much right now, just feeling.

Dane lifts his head; his eyes are heavy with passion while he looks through me. “You are mine. I know it sounds strange, and that it’s going too quickly, but you will see with time that we are better together than apart.” Why is it that his words resonate so true with me? I’ve never been one to trust or believe blindly on what is told to me, but with Dane, it seems like I’m aware of him on a deeper level than I know.

“But we don’t even know each other.”

“Our souls know each other. All the rest will follow.” He is about to lower his head again when there is a loud crash, as if glass is breaking. I feel his body tensing below me. One minute I’m sitting on his lap, the next I’m on the ground and Dane is shielding my body. I can feel his muscles flexing as his head turns towards the windows.

“Dane,” I hear a man call as the door bursts open and one of the men from earlier appears. “Are you guys okay?”

I hear a deep growl escape from Dane as his head snaps up to face the man. “What the fuck happened?” I can feel the anger vibrating through him as he continues to hover over me.

“Two motherfuckers in a van threw a brick through the window.”

My body tenses. I’ve been threatened in the past, that’s why I was assigned bodyguards, but I never thought it would amount to a real threat.

“Dag went after them, but I doubt he will be able to catch up as they were long gone when he took off.”

Dane simply nods, which has the man turning and walking into the dining room where I’m guessing the brick is. Dane stands, and then he is helping me up to my feet. “Are you okay?” he asks, looking at me carefully, which has my stomach knotting in pleasure. I can sense the anger pulsing through him, but he still takes the time to see if I’m okay.

“Yes, thank you.”

“The information we got was that you had been threatened, but nothing was reported that there had been more than just threats.”

“That’s because there hasn’t been,” I say as I lift my hands to push a strand of hair back from my face. “I mean, there have been threats but not any real evidence that it was more than just someone being mean.”

“I’m going to kill that son of a bitch.”

At Dane’s threat, I tense. “Who?” I ask in surprise at his obvious anger.

“Your fucking agent. He didn’t tell us you were actually being threatened.”

That has me shrugging. I know that Tom isn’t the nicest person. If I could go back, I would never have gotten involved with him, but he knows how to make money and how to promote his actors. Therefore, I’ve let him manage my career, and when these threats started arriving, I didn’t pay any attention to them because we get strange mail all the time, but Tom thought it was best to get me some security. Never in a million years did I think that it would be Dane, or I would have asked for security myself.

I confess that at first, I was against it, but with Tom sometimes it's pointless arguing. “It was just a few notes, and someone scratched the car I’m driving,” When I see how Dane’s body stiffens, I try to disarm the moment. “To be fair, it could have been random.”

“From now on, if anything happens, I want to know about it,” he states as he takes a step towards me. Dane is a threatening presence, especially when he’s as angry as he is now. I’ve only just met him, but I can tell that he would make lesser men shake with his presence alone, but even though I sense the danger that he can bring to others, I somehow feel safe in his presence.

“Most times, I don’t know about these things as all my mail is sorted by a PA. The only reason I found out about the threats was because of the scratch on my car.”

“I will have a talk with your agent,” he states as he takes another step towards me. Looking up, I see his body is still tense with anger, but there is something else in his eyes. “Freya, I want you to know that no matter what I will protect you, but you need to listen to what I tell you.”

I’m not someone that follows blindly, but Dane has me trusting him from the minute we met. If he tells me to listen to something he says because it will keep me safe, then I will consider it, and if it makes sense to me, I will definitely follow his guidance.

“Okay, Dane,” I murmur as he lifts his hand to cup my cheek. The minute his fingertips feather over my skin; I feel a friction of electricity race down my body. The man’s touch makes everything around me disappear. When I make people freeze, this precise thing happens, but then the person wouldn’t be stroking my cheek or lowering his head to kiss me. Dane somehow triggers my powers, but not in any specific way that I can pick up on. He’s a beacon of light in a world I thought covered me in darkness. It’s the same feeling I get when I’ve stopped someone from doing something wrong, giving me a sense of purpose in this cruel, awful world. It’s not cruel anymore. How can it be cruel when it gave me someone like Dane?
