“Apparently, it happens when it has to happen. Nova, one of the other mates, told me that it doesn’t matter what contraception you use, it doesn’t work with the Elementals.”
I wasn’t going to use any contraception, but that is interesting to know. “Oh, let’s go in there,” I say as we see a nice little rustic coffee shop just ahead.
“Yes, please,” Anastasia replies. “I’ve wanted a nice piece of chocolate cake. I haven’t had it in such a long time, I really hope they have something decadent inside. I might even have two slices,” she quips as we walk inside.
This must be a popular little coffee shop. The tables are all occupied. I sigh in annoyance as I just wanted to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a slice of cake. “Maybe we can sit at that table, if she’s alone I’m sure she won’t mind.” I look towards the far corner and see a woman sitting there. I can’t see her face because she is leaning back in the shadows.
“We can try.” I’m not someone that would just go up to someone and ask if I can sit at their table, but today is a first time for everything, so I might as well try this too.
I follow Anastasia and see the woman tense as we approach.
“Hi, do you mind if we sit with you?” Anastasia asks, sending her a friendly smile. “All the tables are full, and all we wanted was a cup of coffee and a treat.”
Up close, I can see the woman has pitch black hair and very light green eyes. She seems reluctant, her eyes traveling around the coffee shop and then over us before she nods.
“Oh, thank you.”
We take our seats and smile, but I see that she seems uncomfortable with this interruption.
“I’m Freya, this is Anastasia,” I say, introducing us. “Thank you for letting us join you. As a thank you, I would like to offer to pay for your coffee.”
I see a look of surprise in her eyes, but then she nods. “Thank you.”
“We are actually being naughty today,” Anastasia says. “We’re not supposed to be out and about, our men are not going to be happy when they find out.”
The woman has a look of shock on her face, her whole body going rigid.
“It’s just that they went out and don’t know that we have come out too, they will be worried.” For some reason I think this woman is hiding something, but I have no idea what it could be. All I know is what my senses are telling me, and they are saying that she’s in pain, but I don’t think it’s a physical pain, more of a mental or even spiritual pain.
“Have you tried the chocolate cake here? All I want is a slice of decadent chocolate cake.”
Anastasia’s question has her smiling as she nods. “That is why I come here; they have the best chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted.” Well, it looks like Anastasia and this woman have found something in common—they are both chocoholics. I personally prefer a carrot cake, or something fruity. The waitress takes our order just as my phone starts ringing.
Taking the phone out of my haversack, which I brought with me just in case I want to buy anything, I see that it’s Dane phoning. Oh boy, does he know yet? “It’s Dane,” I say before answering. “Hello?”
“Hey, baby cheeks.” Dane has got into the habit of calling me different pet names. I think that if he knew we had slipped away; he wouldn’t be so understanding. “Just wanted to let you know that. . .” he stops suddenly, there is silence on the line before he speaks again. “Where are you?” Damn, he must have heard the other clients talking in the background.
“Don’t be angry. Anastasia and I were tired of being locked up. We are being safe, so don’t worry.”
“What the fuck,” I hear him roar, which has me pulling the phone slightly away from my ear. I guess me saying that we are safe hasn’t appeased his anger. Anastasia nudges me. Glancing over at her, I see her indicate for me to disconnect the call, but I shake my head. I won’t do that. It’s not right to have him worry unnecessarily.
“Seriously, don’t worry. We are being safe, and no one knows who we are,” I soothe him and see the woman at our table raise her brows at my words.
“Where are you?” His voice is low, and I can hear the anger vibrating in each word.
“We came into town.” I don’t want to say where we are just yet, as I know that one of the men will be here to collect us before we can have our coffee. “I have to go. I will let you know when we are on our way back.”
“Freya!” I hear him roar, but I disconnect the call.
“He didn’t sound happy…” the woman says with a watchful look.
“He’s just worried because the Elementals are having some problems with a gang; he just wants to make sure we are safe.”
“I’ve heard of the Elementals; they seem to be an MC to be afraid of,” the woman says.
“Oh, they are, but they don’t believe in hurting women or children. That is why they are at war with the gang, apparently they are looking for a woman that ran away from them and the men are worried that she will be killed when found.”
“You mean that they have gone to war because of a woman they don’t know?”
