“Please let him go, he was just being an ass.” Kane opens his mouth to respond, but I hold up my hand. “I would shut up if I were you,” I warn, because I now have no doubt that Dane has no problem in ending someone’s life.

“Thank you,” I say when he drops his hand and steps between Kane and me. I place my hands flat on his back, feeling the muscles there rippling. I notice that he isn’t wearing his kutte, only the black T-shirt he had on earlier, which has me thinking about his tattooed back, and how it rippled when he took off his T-shirt.

“Dane, we need to actually be together to go through the lines,” I inform him. It’s sweet how he’s standing in front of me so protectively.

Dane grunts in annoyance before he takes a step to my side. “Touch her and you are dead.”

Kane looks at me in surprise and then back at Dane.

“Well, that is going to be difficult because I have to kiss her for…” Dane has his hand around Kane’s neck before he has a chance to finish his sentence. He pushes him forcefully against the wall, so hard that I’m sure he dented it.

“Dane,” I call but he doesn’t seem to be listening.

Dag and Eirik are suddenly pushing me out of the way as they try to get Dane’s hand away from Kane’s neck. Oh, my word, he wasn’t joking. He will really kill any man that touches me. My heart is racing when I see how difficult it is for the men to pull Dane back.

“Dane, please.” I don’t want him to get into trouble because of me. “I’ll never speak to you again if you kill him.” I can feel my eyes filling with tears.

Kane is gasping, his lips turning an unearthly blue.

“You think you’re going to touch my woman? You’ll be dead before I let you touch her.” Dane’s voice is menacing, his whole-body is rippling with anger. Dag and Eirik are pushing him back and it doesn’t even seem like he feels them. He’s a scary image indeed, standing here ready to kill a man for voicing that he was going to kiss me.

Walking behind him I place my hands on his back. “Please, Dane, you are worrying me.” My voice is low, but I know that he can hear the worry in it. When I think my plea had no sway with him, he suddenly let’s go of Kane.
